The University of Toronto operates on an acadmic year rather than on a semester or a quarter system. Students begin their studies in September and continue until May of the following year. A summer session is also offered in May-August.

Toronto's first jail, built around 1800, was a wooden building with ten cells on the south-east corner of King and Yonge Streets. A ten-minute voyage on a vintage ferryboat is an integral part of the Gibraltar Point experience. The Mainland Ferry terminal, located at Bay Street and Queen’s Quay West, is a short walk from Union Station. Public transit to the Terminal includes the Bay #6 bus and the Harbourfront LRT. Bicycles can be taken on the ferry. Ferryboats run on seasonal schedules to docks at Hanlan’s Point, Centre and Ward’s Islands. Ferry fares are $6 return for adults.
