How long does a WoodBlocX structure last?
Garden Ponds Designs, Building Raised Beds, Terracing, Garde...WoodBlocX is pressure treated with Tanalith E, a water based preservative which fixes in the cells of the timber when it dries. The wood is dried in a vacuum and then pressurised to 300 psi. If you cut a piece of WoodBlocX in half you will find that the preservative has penetrated virtually 100% of the wood. This means that WoodBlocX will last for 20 years and possibly longer, depending upon the ground conditions.

If WoodBlocX structures do not need foundations then why do they not fall over?
Garden Ponds Designs, Building Raised Beds, Terracing, Garde...Masonry walls need rigid foundations because they cannot withstand tension forces. WoodBlocX structures are joined with many dowels to create a rigid structure that can withstand tension forces (each dowel joint will withstand up to 0.9 tonnes of shear force in our tests).

Garden Ponds Designs, Building Raised Beds, Terracing, Garde...With difficulty, but it can be done. Use crowbars or big screwdrivers to create a gap between the layers of BlocX and then cut through the dowels with a saw. Once separated the dowels can be removed using a hammer and punch.

What kind of varnish should I use?
Floor Sanding FAQsWe usually recommend, and only stock, high-quality water-based varnish products, as they are non-toxic, non-yellowing and quick drying. Please note that this new, water-based technology has only really matured in the last few years, and some well-known and widely-sold products are not very durable. They can need re-doing in under a year in some cases, whereas our varnishes are designed to last at least 5 years, some up to 20, subject to conditions and regular maintenance, etc.
How much water-based varnish will I need?
Floor Sanding FAQsGloss as a finish is not popular as it shows up any minor imperfections in the floor. However, it is sometimes used effectively on tropical/darker woods for a particular look. Satin, which is between gloss and matt, is the popular contemporary look. It has a sheen and reflects some light, and is forgiving of the odd minor imperfection. Matt, although still a small part of the market, gives a very natural waxed look.
What's the best way to apply the varnish?
Floor Sanding FAQsProfessionals use rollers. However, if you are doing one or two rooms, you can achieve better results with a large inexpensive floor brush, which we stock. If doing a hardwood floor in a large area, it would be worth using a roller or T-bar.
