What is the difference between RS422 and RS485?
Axis Communications - AXIS 205 SupportRS422 can handle only one slave unit (e.g. a PTZ). Whereas RS485 can handle several slave units. Electrically the two protocols are identical.
Question: What is the difference between RS422 communication and RS485 communication?
NetShop UK - Cable management & USB/ADSL/Wireless Network pr...Answer: RS422 is an earlier standard than RS485. If a card complies with the RS485 standard then it will comply with the RS422 standard. The most significant difference is that RS422 when using 2 wires to communicate to another device is simplex only, ie it can only transmit or receive in one direction and requires handshake lines to control the flow of data. RS485 is a standard which allows bi-directional communication when using 2 wires. See similar questions...
What is the maximum length of a RS422/ RS485 line ?
ACKSYS - Services en ligneThe acceptable length for the cable depends on the binary flow. Besides, it depends on the extent of distortion of the signal which we may tolerate and on such external conditions as the difference in potential between the earths and the noise along the cable. The limit values indicated by the standards give a length of 1000 m for a 10 Kbps flow and of 10 m for a 10 Mbps flow. See similar questions...
How to detect the signals A & B of a RS422/ RS485 pair ?
ACKSYS - Services en ligneWhen a binary state 0 (OPERATING) for the data circuits or an OFF state for control and time base circuits is emitted, the terminal (marker) A is positive with respect to the marker B. When a binary state 1 (PAUSE) for the data circuits or an ON state for control and time base circuits is emitted, the terminal (marker) A is negative with respect to the marker B. The Transmitter/ Receiver circuits RS422/ RS485 being fully symmetrical, there is no risk in inverting the polarities. See similar questions...
What is RS232?
FAQ: Search Results - Shop Floor Automationsquot;Interface Between Data Terminal Equipment and Data Communications Equipment Employing Serial Binary Data Interchange." Every word in the title is significant: it describes the interface between a terminal (DTE) to a modem (DCE) for the transfer of serial data. Short for recommended standard-232C, a standard interface approved by the Electronic Industries Association (EIA) for connecting serial devices. See similar questions...
Can you support RS232?
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) about Sensory ProductsThere is no hardware UART (universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter) inside the RSC4x, but we have written an equivalent serial software driver to handle the same functions. The only drawback is that because it is software based, it is not possible to receive serial data simultaneously with doing recognition or synthesis output. Adding a hardware UART would overcome this limitation but increase the chip cost. quot;RS232" means conforming to the RS232 voltage standards (1= -12V, 0= +12V). See similar questions...
What are the significant differential levels of a receiver RS422 ?
ACKSYS - Services en ligneIf V(A) - V(B) < = -0,3 V, the data circuit is in pause state/ The control or time base circuit is in open (ON) state If V(A) - V(B) > = -0,3 V, the data circuit is in operating state/ The control or time base circuit is in closed (OFF) state See similar questions...

What do I do if my laptop has no RS232 COM ports?
Free Instrumentation Software FAQ and Technical SupportThe free software is for serial instruments connected to the RS232 COM port. If your laptop is without COM ports, you can add them by installing a serial card in the computer's PCMCIA slot, by purchasing a USB to Serial RS232 adaptor or, for Wi-Fi networks, by connecting a serial device server. How do I use my RS232 tester?
FAQ: Search Results - Shop Floor AutomationsShop Floor Automations ships a DB25 RS232 tester with every hardware order. We terminate our RS232 cabling with RJ-45 connectors and have different adapters to tailor to each installation. Depending on your machine will require different pin-outs on the adapters. To test the correct pin-out in the cabling" the other end of the cabling, where the control would normally plug into, plug in the tester. See similar questions...
Where did RS232 come from?
FAQ: Search Results - Shop Floor AutomationsIn the early 1960s, a standards committee, today known as the Electronic Industries Association, developed a common interface standard for data communications equipment. At that time, data communications was thought to mean digital data exchange between a centrally located mainframe computer and a remote computer terminal, or possibly between two terminals without a computer involved. How is RS232 different from Parallel?
FAQ: Search Results - Shop Floor AutomationsMost IBM PC and compatible computers are typically equipped with two serial ports and one parallel port. Although these two types of ports are used for communicating with external devices, they work in different ways. A parallel port sends and receives data eight bits at a time over 8 separate wires. This allows data to be transferred very quickly; however, the cable required is more bulky because of the number of individual wires it must contain and cable distances are generally very short. How do I connect RS232 to a CML modem ?
Frequently Asked QuestionsThe previous response gives information on the synchronous/asynchronous conversion required. The other consideration is level translation. RS232 typically uses +/- 12V for its signalling levels, these must be translated to 5V an 0V for CML modems. Further, the idle state on RS232 is a continuous mark (or binary 1) represented by -12V. The corresponding logic level for a mark is 5V(high), RS232 therefore requires inverting. The most common device used for this translation is the Maxim MAX232. See similar questions...

What is the baud rate used in the RS232?
Roboteq Frequently Asked QuestionsThe AX2550 serial port operates at 9600 bits per second and uses 7-bit, 1 start bit, 1 stop bit and even parity. This rate is equivalent to approximately 1000 characters per second. Considering that a motor command takes 5 characters, the controller can be updated with a new command up to 200 times per second. How does the RS232 Watchdog work?
Roboteq Frequently Asked QuestionsThe watchdog function may be enabled or disabled by configuring the controller's settings. When enabled, the controller expects to receive at least one character every 5 seconds. The character can be part of a command, or may be a dummy character that causes no action. If not character is received, the controller will cause the motors to stop. The controller remains active and ready to execute the next command as soon as it arrives. See similar questions...
