There is no charge to connect to the wireless network, but you do need to purchase a wireless Ethernet card that complies with the WiFi 802.11b/g standard.

Wireless access points operate within the 2.4GHz frequency range and are prone to interference from microwave ovens, other unknown access points in the area, some cordless phones and many other environmental factors that may be passing between you and the access point at any given time. Though the wireless protocol was designed to be robust, it is still radio frequency, and it can be interrupted by various pieces of equipment and/or structures.

We do indeed have wireless, which you are welcome to experience with your laptop, or a laptop that you check out from the Reserve Desk. Yes. There are wireless capabilities in two places in the library: at the front of the library and in the atrium area. Access requires an IEEE 802.11b compliant network card. The card may be purchased at the university bookstore or from most electronic stores. Just find a wireless network to which you can connect. These networks are becoming common in cities and towns worldwide — Internet cafes and coffee shops are popping up everywhere! — as well as in public areas like airports, hotels and convention centres or anywhere people gather. Some wireless HotSpot networks require you to manually configure your access connection; others work with your wireless card to automatically log on.

A wireless network adapter, typically in the form of a PCMCIA card. However, many current laptops have wireless network adapters built into them now.

Not directly. Solano Wireless Internet provides "wireless Internet access", not "wireless networking" (the term "wireless" is thrown around pretty loosely). Wireless Internet access means that there are no cables (phone line, cable or other physical connections) between our transmitting towers and relay stations and your roof-top receiver. We deliver the "signal" to you via wireless transmission.

If you have a UH Username, the wireless "network name" and password can be found by logging in to the UH Account Management system at http://www.hawaii.edu/account. Once you log in to the Account Management system, look for the link titled "UHM Wireless Network Settings". Clicking on that link will give you the wireless network name and password.
