Students are screened for possible giftedness upon entering the school system, as required by state law. Accelerated math is offered starting in fourth grade. Beginning in ninth grade, Yorktown High School offers honors courses in English, Math, and Science. Beestar GT programs are designed for kids who want more challenge beyond the required basic skills. Following the school teaching system, GT programs go slightly ahead of the regular curricula. Some of them demand generic critical thinking and spatial imagination skills.
