How do biodynamic agricultural practices differ from organic farming practices?

Both practices strive to improve the soil health. Organic methods do not differentiate between compost of varying materials. The biodynamic farmer mixes carefully portioned amounts of raw materials to form compost according to specified formulae. Those Biodynamic practices include Biodynamic preparations and herbal remedies.

To be Certified Organic, herbs have to be grown on a farm that has been inspected, and soil samples proved to be chemical free. Does it matter if the herbs I take are organic?

Herbs Etc.
As an herbalist concerned about our environment, I strongly recommend that herbal consumers choose certified organically grown herbs. First, choosing organically cultivated herbs helps lessen over-harvesting of herbs in the wild. For example, Echinacea and Goldenseal, among other herbs, are facing extinction unless we start cultivating these plants. Second, certified organic farmers make sure they have crops year after year by not compromising their land for short-term gain.

Biodynamic? and organic farming methods are similar to one another in that they both work to enhance the soil and cultivate plants that are free of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Biodynamic? cultivation, however, goes a step further-beyond organic. Homeopathic preparations are used to enhance the vitality of the plants. Are there hormones in the herbs?

FAQ (Frequently asked questions)
No. Some herbs contain phyto-oestrogens (plant-steroids), but these are not the same as human hormones. Sometimes we may use a homeopathic called progesteronum to encourage the body to produce more progesterone, but this is only done on a case by case scenario if necessary. Your therapist will communicate with you and let you know if they feel this is appropriate. Because it is a homeopathic preparation this is thousands of times less concentrated than any synthetic medication you would take.
