YES. Unless you have transfer credit or have exempted through the placement exam, EVERY student must take 112 in order to graduate. 112 is part of the graduation requirement.

We recommend taking 112 within your first three semesters at UMass. It is not a problem if you cannot get the course your first fall on campus, but don’t let it wait too long because 112 is a prerequisite to your junior-level writing course in your major.

SPEA does not require a foreign language for either the BSPA or BSPH degrees. For BSES students, eight hours of a foreign language is required for degree completion.

It is imperative that high school juniors considering early admission are academically prepared for the challenges of college. Students must discuss their intent with their high school guidance counselor, receive written approval from the guidance counselor or high school principal, and receive satisfactory scores on ability-to-benefit testing. There is a formal process for students to be considered.

It is commonly recommended that women not fly at all during their last six weeks of pregnancy. Most major air carriers require that pregnant passengers traveling within 30 days of expected delivery must provide a doctor's statement dated within 72 hours of departure indicating the due date and indicating that air travel does not pose a health risk. Women in labor will be denied boarding for safety reasons. Pregnant women should always consult their obstetricians or midwives before traveling.

Treating these small (painless) problems when they are not serious is beneficial to the patient, by eliminating a possible cause of future problems.

If you fail a unit you may be able to obtain special permission to progress to your next semester units of study after consultation with the relevant Schools or Departments. If this is approved you will need to bring the form in person to the Faculty of Science counter to have it added to your next semester's enrolment. You may also be able to retake the Unit of Study. It takes place in the context of the Christian community and is guided by the Gospel of Jesus and by the witness and experience of St. Jude parishioners. RCIA meets at St. Jude on Wednesday evenings. There is a prom in the spring of each year. Prom is for Juniors and Seniors. Underclassmen may attend if they are the date of a Junior or Senior. This event is held off-campus at a site to be determined. There is also an "after prom" event called "Project Prom." This gives the students the opportunity to have fun in a safe, alcohol and drug-free environment. This event is also chaperoned by faculty and parents.

A few workshops will be dedicated specifically to junior administrators (those relatively new to higher education), while some will be geared primarily toward senior administrators (seasoned professionals in higher education). This is a new effort on our part to respond to the different needs and interests of these groups. Not all workshops will have this feature, but be sure to read carefully so that you go to a workshop that is appropriate for your level of experience.
