What is the difference between an undergraduate and a postgraduate course?

In contrast to Austria, where the first degree is a Magister or a Diplom, the first degree in the UK is a Bachelor's. It can be either a B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) or a B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science). The Scottish 'ancient' universities award a Master's as the first degree; it is equivalent to a Bachelor's. Undergraduate courses are those leading to this degree. Postgraduate courses are all courses that come after the undergraduate, or first-degree, level.
