Short course: 1/2 mile = 18 laps (over and back (50 yards) equals 1 lap, 1 mile = 36 laps; Long course: 1/2 mile = 9 laps (down and back (100 meters) equals 1 lap, 1 mile = 18 laps.

There are lots of ways to get in laps -- practice days, morning practice, Championship races, running a division with multiple classes. In the actual event, you are only guaranteed one lap. The bulkheads are held in place with screws and not fibreglass or epoxy. You will find them behind the head, and across the top of the forward port locker. You will have to remove the centre top teak piece from between the bulkheads. This is a bit tricky but once you see the angle they used at the factory, it comes together and gets easy. Once you know the approximate length of your practice you can show up in class at any point within that 150 minute time frame. There is no strict starting time except what is convenient to you unless your teacher has given you a specific time to come.
