How will frost (frozen material) affect the gauge readings?

troxlerlabs.com: Nuclear Gauge FAQs
Should I take a backscatter or direct transmission reading on aggregate base? (usually 4"- 6" in thickness)

Why are my gauge readings off?

Frequently Asked Questions - NETS
Answer ? Ensure you have good standard count. Verify you are at the correct depth and no offset are enabled that should not be used.

What causes frost or ice crystals to appear on the surface of frozen vegetables such as broccoli?

National Center for Home Food Preservation | Freezing FAQs
Inadequate draining of vegetables before freezing, slow freezing or fluctuation of storage temperatures above 0°F may cause undesirable formation of large and excessive ice crystals. This can affect the texture as well as appearance of frozen vegetables.

My gauge readings do not match my sand cone readings. Why?

Frequently Asked Questions - NETS
Answer - Usually they will not. There is a lot of room for operator error when performing a sand cone test. There is really no way to prove which test is more "accurate" because there is no absolute test for soil density. The best way to compare the two test methods is to take at least three 4 minute nuclear gauge measurements at different locations (preferably direct transmission @ 6 or 8 inches) and at least 3 sand cone tests (at the same locations as the gauge readings).

How will an ear infection affect the readings?

Advanced Monitors - Vet-Temp How To
In the clinical study that was published in JAVMA that is referenced above, ear infections had no affect on the ear temperature. However, if an animal has a severe ear infection, using the Vet-Temp may be contraindicated due to sensitivity of the ear canal. Advanced Monitors recommends that when an animal has an injured or infected ear, the clinician should take the temperature from the other ear.

What about Frost?

OZ-POST Instant Post Holes
Oz-Posts? perform excellent in both warm and cold climates. Frost is a force that can easily ruin any kind of post installation that is not done correctly. In areas that experience below freezing conditions evidence of damage caused by frost is easy to spot and very common. The best and easiest solution for this problem is Oz-Post! Posts that have been installed with post holes and concrete can be "heaved" out of the ground by the freezing and thawing of the surrounding soil.

How does frost heave affect the Oz-Deck Foundation System?

OZ-POST Instant Post Holes
The Oz-Deck sits on top of the ground, moving up and down just as your driveway or sidewalk would. The deck structure is part of the anchoring system and is designed to accommodate the frost movement. Not fight against it. When building next to a door, place the deck height a minimum of ½ inch below the door’s threshold.

What gauge is this?

GFLTC On-Line
We just like to call it "LEGO?-Gauge" or "L-Gauge"! It looks like "O-Gauge", but the scale of the track, trains, etc. are not the same.

What are the benefits of phase change material Cool Packs over ice or frozen gel packs?

Texas Cool Vest: Technical Information
First, phase change material technology Cool Packs operate at a much more comfortable temperature. That means they won't cause skin or tissue damage, or cause extreme discomfort. Second, phase change material technology CoolPacks will be effective for a longer period of time between charges. The reason? The difference in temperature between ambient (surrounding) air and the Cool Pack is much less than the difference in temperature between ambient air and ice.

How Does Temperature Affect the Accuracy of Meter Readings?

FAQ
After moisture content and a moisture gradient, if one exists, wood temperature is the most important factor affecting the accuracy of your readings. As wood temperature increases its electrical resistance decreases and indicated moisture content rises. The lower the temperature, the lower the indicated moisture content. Depending on the temperature and moisture content, you may have to make a correction. Delmhorst meters are calibrated at 70° F (20° C).

How Does Static Electricity Affect Meter Readings?

FAQ
In cold and/or dry climates, static charges may cause erratic meter readings in the range below 8 percent. Measuring such high resistance under these conditions is difficult enough, but the winter months can make it more so. The analog meter pointer "jumps" all over the scale or the digital display may flash erratic numbers. To minimize the effect of static: Drive the electrode pins into the wood with the meter turned off, and then turn the meter on when you are ready to take the reading.

Will fouling affect the DO readings from a Hach LDO sensor?

FAQ - Water Quality Sensors - HACH ENVIRONMENTAL
Passive fouling will not affect the Hach LDO sensor because the sensor does not need to consume oxygen. However, active fouling, such as barnacles, that consumes oxygen itself will misrepresent the condition of the water around the sensor. Active fouling can be easily removed from the sensor by using the self-cleaning mechanism included with the Hydrolab DS5X.

What about readings?

Untitled Document
You will have the same book for both internships, although you will focus on different parts of it. The book is called The Successful Internship. You may very well have additional readings assigned to you by your site supervisor.

How come I had frost after the last frost date?

Gardening by the Moon FAQs
Those dates are calculated to give you the last average frost date, which means that up to 50% of the time you could experience frost after that date. I do plant using those dates, unless it seems like it will be a longer or colder spring that usual, and I am ready with my floating row covers to tuck in my plants on colder nights. Again, observe the weather signs and patterns for the year and use your best judgment.

Why do you separate frozen ears and tails? Does it affect feedlot performance?

Spiritwood Stockyards Online :: Small Town with Big Market P...
If ears and tails are frozen, chances are that feet have also been frozen. In many cases, this will not show up until the middle of winter. This will most definitely affect feedlot performance. If feet do not show any sign of frost as yearlings, the discount is very small.
