Your water utility regulates the amount of chlorine added to disinfect your drinking water. Sometimes, after hard rainstorms or during high spring runoff, more chlorine may be added to ensure that your water is safe to drink. When you turn on your faucet, you actually vent the gas from your tap water. Hydrogen sulfide can be treated with oxidation and carbon filtration.
