A cast is a rigid casing wrapped around a broken bone to keep it from moving while it heals. The cast must remain in place until the doctor removes it. In most cases, yes, so don't panic. Some casts are easier to repair than others. Very often breakages can be repaired and the hairline cracks disguised. In instances where the break is very obvious may be possible to disguise the damage by using a decorative finish on the sculpture - such as a bronze or gilded effect. Yes, broken glass exists, but it is not "all over the place" even on city streets. Unless it's a recent breakage, it gets kicked or swept into cracks, against walls, or right against curbs and isn't strewn about. For the little glass that does remain, again, just watch where you're going!
