MGRS is just a special format for describing UTM coordinates. So the simple answer is that they are the same coordinate system. UTM coordinates are specified as Zone Number, Meters East (the easting), and Meters North (the northing). MGRS uses a Zone, A 2 letter code to indicate a 100km square, and an easting and northing value. Then the numeric easting and northing are abbreviated. See this link for details.

UTM is a series of Transverse Mercator projection based grids at 6 degree intervals circling the world. Each one has the same false origin of 500,000 E 10,000,000 N for the southern hemisphere. (ESRI forgot us down here in ArcView 3). Because New Zealand spans three zones they are not suitable as a National projection to replace NZMG because it is not a common frame of reference covering NZ.

Nope. You have to first go to Geodetic Cooordinates, perform a Datum Shift in Geocentric Coordinates with either a 3-parameter or a 7-parameter transformation, then transform back to Geodetic Coordinates, then to whatever Grid system you want on the new Datum. There are a number of "free" packages that can do this for you without the need to bother with the details if your accuracy requirements will tolerate a black-box transform.

Didger 2 from Golden Software converts data and boundary files between 21 different projections, including Unprojected Latitude/Longitude and UTM. The 16-bit versions of Windows use a coordinate system that limits the maximum paper size. The 32-bit versions of Windows (NT) do not have this limitation. There are several ways to work around the problem: To print a map on 24"x 40" paper at a scale of 1.0 in. = 1.

Q19. I digitize my map and set the display and calibration units as Lat/Long, but when I export my map the units are in meters! Q20. I am having a problem printing ("Out of global memory" error, only a portion of the map prints, etc.).

To have a US item run under UK current you need to buy a transformer, a product that you plug into the wall and has a US-style jack at the other end. The transformer will "step down" in voltage from 240 to 120v. From there you may want to plug in a US-style power strip and provide current for sev eral products. Next you need to consider how many watts your transformer is providing (all transformers should clearly indicate this).

Most distance learning specialists recommend that your course be complete on the day the course starts. This gives students the sense of your course as a whole. It also allows you to participate fully with the students rather then trying to plan your next lesson. There are many options and resources available in an online asynchronous environment to provide a rich learning experience for your students.

While perusing the system in my spare time (now that I'm a lowly user, I have spare time :-) I re-noticed the type managers, and the large amount of space that they consume. I'm certain that most of them are not needed for any given system. I'm pretty sure that many of them aren't needed, even if you allow for diskless booting, at least in our environment. What I don't know is which I can have pulled off safely. In other words, I need to know what systems the following managers take care of.

You will want to go into the setup menus for your GPS and look for menus like "Navigation" and "Position Format". You should find a menu that gives you choices like: MGRS UTM/UPS USER UTM GRID hdd.ddddd hddd mm.mmm hddd mm ss.s

Some other countries in out of the way parts of the world have used coordinate systems that are UTM like, but not lined up with the standard UTM zone scheme. By determining values for Longitude Origin, Scale, False Easting, and False Northing, the GPS can usually display these coordinate systems.

The UTM accuracy is an important factor to consider in the geographic query. All Element Occurrences are assigned a level of accuracy for the Easting and Northing data. The descriptions of the accuracy codes are listed in the table below.
