The biggest advantage is that DVD's allow fast, random access to any chapter on the video. This eliminates the need to fast forward and rewind and it eliminates the associated guessing about when to stop the tape. This random access feature is really helpful for videos that are 90 minutes or longer (like most of those we offer). In addition, DVD's are compact, easy to store, and, unless damaged, they have a near infinite life.

Currently, Home Video Hits recommends to process less than 90 minutes of video per DVD to maintain the highest standard of quality. We can use a Dual Layer DVD which will fit up to 3 hours of footage which will cost a little more.

We used to accept VHS videotapes as donations, but hospitals have started phasing out their video collections as VCRs become harder to find. DVDs are smaller, lighter and higher quality, therefore we are limiting our donations to DVD movies only.
