Yes. Airedales are Terriers. Terriers are earth-dogs. You must expect any Airedale to dig. Some Airedales dig more than others. We find that there are particular times when the Airedales do more digging, such as spring time or when puppies are in the house. You may need to block off particular sections of your yard that you especially do not want the dog to dig in.

Even some Airedale owners are surprised to hear that Airedales will kill cats. This is because they have raised their Airedale from puppyhood with cats. If your cat has never lived with a dog, we will not place an Airedale with you. If you own a cat that has lived successfully with large active dogs, SWAT will only offer you an Airedale which is known to have lived peacefully with cats or has been tested with cats to gauge their reaction.

When the Airedale undergoes surgery of any kind that requires anesthesia (including spay/neuter) you should require the use of Propofol on the dog. You should never use or allow the use of ACE on your Airedale (ACE is often used as a pre-med by Vets).

Michigan's statute, Act 53 of Public Act 1974, requires anyone who engages in or is responsible for the planning or performance of any type of excavation e.g.; grading, demolition, cultivating, augering, blasting, or boring to provide advance notice of at least three full working days to MISS DIG at 800-482-7171. The call center is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to take ticket requests. MISS DIG must be called prior to excavation in order to comply with the state statute.

Each state has its own set of laws that identify the time by which the underground facilities should be marked. You should never dig unless you see evidence that the facilities have been marked or cleared. DELAWARE: Excavators in Delaware are to give notice two (2) full working days prior to the day they plan to start work. The day of the call is not counted as one of these days. MARYLAND: 48 business hours from the time the locate was requested and you have contacted the Ticket Check System.

State law requires that an excavator contacts Digger's Hotline at (800) 242-8511 at least three work days before you dig. Utilities will locate buried facilities with paint and flags. There is NO CHARGE to you. Always assume that any cable is energized. Stay at least 12" away from any exposed underground cable. If you damage or observe damage to a cable, then stop work immediately and contact us. We will differentiate between live and abandoned facilities and make repairs.

Our Airedales come from owners who can no longer care for their Airedale, usually because of health or financial reasons or because of a lack of time for a dog, or from shelters where the Airedale has either been turned in by its owner or was a stray. All Airedales entering our program are evaluated medically and for temperament to the best of our ability.

The average lifespan of an Airedale is about 12 years. We know of many vigorous 14 and 15-year-olds still pulling their owners down the street on their daily walk.

We feed our Airedales Purina Pro-Plan PERFORMANCE dry dog food. This is a higher protein content food for active/working dogs. We feed this food to our puppies as well. The 'puppy mush' meals we start the puppies on is simply this food ground up and mixed with warm water and milk supplement. Before the time the puppies leave us they are eating three meals a day of Performance mixed with warm water. You will be able to switch the puppy to two meals of 1 cup of dry food a day whenever you choose.

is the case with all dogs, both the children and the dog must be taught to respect each other. Children must be taught that taking toys or bothering the dog while he/she is eating are not good habits. Also, the dog should be taught that jumping on people or "mouthing" are not acceptable traits.

No and no. It is a common misconception that archaeologists are only interested in Indian history. Archaeologists are interested in the human story. In North America, that involves both the Indian and the Euro-American cultures. In other parts of the world, archaeologists study the history of the people who lived there. As for dinosaurs, those studies are left in the capable hands of the paleontologists.

Yes and no. Rather than losing and regrowing hair throughout the year, Airedale hair will grow to a certain length and then "blow," with it all coming out at one time. As long as you keep your Airedale well brushed and clipped, very little hair will end up in your house. HOWEVER, if your goal is to own a dog AND have a pristine yard and house, that will be very difficult with an Airedale. Airedale beards can carry quarts of water. Airedales love to dig and stick their heads into holes.

Yes. Airedales are known for their trainability and their versatility (ability to perform most any task they are trained to do). You should be able to train your puppy to do most anything you want it to do or not to do things you don't want it to. Keep in mind that trainability is greatly dependent on you. It takes a strong commitment and consistency on your part. Airedales are also extremely intelligent and will test you at every step of the way.

In general, Cairns will dig. However, some are not interested in digging at all. It depends on the individual dog. By keeping the nails short, and with training, many of those who do dig can learn not to.

Most adult dogs that chew destructively are usually relieving stress. Other symptoms of stress include excessive barking or digging. All puppies chew, especially if they are teething. As adults, BMCs are usually not "chewers" and are content with toys like nylabones or Kong toys. Some lines of BMCs bark more than others, and you should ask the individual breeder about his line.
