A - The basic details on every CO application is not listed in the BIS system. You can obtain a complete copy of the CO by bringing the CO number to the DOB Borough office where the property is located.

A - When construction work taking place does not change the use, egress or occupancy of the building.

A Certificate of Occupancy (C.O.) can be issued by the Department after all applicable final inspections are approved, all required documents are filed with the Building Section of the Community Planning & Development Department and all applicable fees are paid.

The contractor must present a letter requesting the Temporary Certificate of Occupancy which specifies the exact portion of the building for which it is needed, the reason for the request, and the period of time for which it is requested. The letter must include the building permit number, the address of the job, and be accompanied by a $150 fee.

These documents are available from the office once the permit has received all final inspections. The contractor or owner can bring in the yellow inspection card with all required engineered letters to have a staff member verify completion. A Certificate of Occupancy is issued pursuant to a building permit for new construction, additions, and changes of occupancy after all the necessary construction has been approved by the inspector. A certificate of occupancy (CO) is a document issued by Building Inspection, which permits land, and/or buildings to be used for the purpose(s) listed on the CO. Chapter 52, "Administrative Procedures for the Construction Codes", of the Dallas City Code states that except for certain uses, (for example, single family uses, duplex uses, etc.), COs are required prior to occupancy of a building or land. COs can be obtained at the Building Inspection Permit Center (room 118).
