For the best speaker damping and least amount of power loss you will want to use the heaviest gauge that is practical. The length of the speaker wire should be considered when considering wire gauge. The shorter the run, the smaller gauge you can use with minimum power and damping factor loss. The longer the run, the heavier gauge you will need to minimize power and damping factor loss. You will also want to consider the size of power amplifier you are using.

We suggest using 16 or 18 gauge wire to get power to your layout, depending on its size. For larger layouts run a larger gauge bus wire underneath your benchwork and tap of from that to your track about every 6 or 8 feet. For DZ1000 switch machine, which require very little power, we recomend 22 to 26 gauge stranded preferably with tinned (soldered) ends. This will help the set screw bite into it without splaying out the strands.

This might very slightly from 100mm to 102mm so to get a perfert match you would have to use an accurate pitch gauge placed on the blades and set to 0. Then move the pitch arm to align with the 0 center mark. Then adjust the links to get the blades set at 0 degrees. Flight mode and idle up refer to the same thing. This mode is activated with a switch that is usually on the top/left of the transmitter.

Since this unit uses a cross-coupled output, it is imperative that pin 3 be grounded to pin 1 and the audio positive connected to pin 2. It is also very important to make sure the unit is earth grounded using a separate wire connected to the chassis ground screw near the red power connector. Soldering heavy gauge wire is one of those things that is an acquired skill. Like many things, once you learn it, it becomes relatively easy. Silver solder will produce a MUCH stronger joint. It comes with a liquid flux. It is more sensitive to the correct temperature and it is also more expensive. Start by making sure the wires are very clean. We recommend sanding them where they are to be soldered with 150 grit sandpaper. Then clean them with alcohol (isopropyl, rubbing alcohol).

The longest working installation we know of is 650 feet. The cable normally supplied with a system is 40 feet. Longer lengths can be supplied on special order. Customs lengths can be provided with about 2 weeks lead time. We also offer optional 40 foot extension cables.

For my 10 strings, I like the Hannabach 815 10 string set. I also like Luthier Concert 30 strings for flamenco. For picks, I use Jim Dunlop Gator Grip picks, 2.0mm thick. Anything lighter, I break or grind them within the first few songs, being the heavy-handed player that I am.
