Yes, as long as the training includes CPR for infants and children. (This is the standard used by the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing.)

Many OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and state agencies are requiring first aid, CPR or AED training for specific occupations. Anyone transporting hazardous materials, workers that enter a confined space, construction workers, captains on vessels for hire, some schoolteachers and athletic coaches and day care employees are just a few examples. OSHA mandates some specific industries to train up to 20% of their employees in CPR and First Aid.

While these certifications are not required to be considered for a staff position, they do add credibility to an application. We train all our staff in pre-camp with a basic level of first aid and safety training, but we like to have a large group of previously certified staff that we can count on in an emergency. Therefore these certifications will only help you in the application process.

We strongly recommend that you wait until you complete your training before you take the DCR Lifeguard Pre-Employment Exam. However, if you choose to go through the exam and you are currently enrolled in a lifeguard training, first aid, or CPR course, please bring a letter, on official letterhead, signed by your instructor, indicating the course title and expected date of completion.

Unfortunately, the American Heart Association (AHA) CPR classes are non-credit courses offered by EMSA and Centre Community Hospital.

WMI requires that WEMT students have a professional level CPR certification that reflects successful written and practical testing on the following skills: Adult, Infant & Child Foreign Body Airway Obstructions; Adult, Infant & Child CPR with one and two rescuers; Bag-Valve Mask use; and use of an AED.

The Westchestser Chapter of the American Red Cross does Lifeguard training and Certification.
