Once your surround sound format has been selected (see the paragraph below for more), you need to order an optical soundtrack negative for the film. In the case of LCRS mixes, a traditional two-channel; Printmaster track is created, and this is sent to an optical sound house for the creation of the optical negative. The optical sound house will record the soundtrack onto 35mm film using a special camera, and some will also develop their own soundtrack masters.

Unfortunately, the soundtrack album for The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai was never released, despite years of clamoring by fans of the good Doctor. GNP Crescendo Records has, however, released the film's opening and closing theme music on their Science Fiction's Greatest Hits, Volume 4 disk.

Yes. The CD is entitled Inventions from the Blue Line, it's by Mike Post and is published by American Gramaphone, 9130 Mormon Bridge Road, Omaha, NE 68152. The catalog number is AGCD 450 for the CD, and AGC 450 for the cassette. It contains the NYPD Blue theme, 5 other NYPD Blue tracks and 4 other Mike Post themes -- Law & Order, Silk Stalkings, Renegade and Cop Files. In the US it should be available at any large record store.

Optical soundtracks (we mentioned them earlier). Almost all of the release formats, including the digital ones have provision for some kind of optical soundtrack, even if only as a backup. The optical soundtrack refers to the two-channel soundtrack that is carried on the optical track of the film release print.

The only legal way is to go through the painstaking process of compiling it yourself, by individually finding albums and singles that contain each song. At the soundtrack page each song has a listing that will help you find the albums and singles where the songs used in the film originally appeared. Armed with this information, you can compile your own version of the mythical Ferris Bueller soundtrack.

Unfortunately, no. And the Dune soundtrack is mostly music by Toto, which probably makes some folks avoid this or buying it just for one track. It is a lovely track, though, and could easily have gone on Apollo. A CD version of the Dune soundtrack is available on the Polydor label, number 823 770-2. Be careful, because there is another version of the soundtrack that consists entirely of pieces by Toto, some previously unreleased.

Ms. Honna's version is in the soundtrack, and it is also available as a single (see the CD list for details). However, Ms. Newton-John's version is not in the soundtrack album, since it is owned by a different record company. Her version is available in "Let Me Be There" (US version) from MCA in the US, and "Music Makes My Day" from Pye in the UK.

When DVS Theatrical was first introduced in large-format theaters, WGBH conducted field tests and focus groups to determine whether users preferred to have just the descriptive narration or a mix of the narration and the soundtrack in the headsets.
