Can powder coatings be applied on site?

FAQ
Powder Coatings are a factory applied finish using specialised equipment. The equipment includes an electrostatic spray gun, spray booth and an oven to bake (or cure) the coating. On site application is not possible given the hot curing cycle required to fuse the coating.

Can powder coatings be applied to wood?

FAQ
New powder coating technology has been developed by Dulux to powder coat engineered timber products like MDF board. Known as Dulux Trimatrx®, this unique powder coating is available only through Dulux Registered Applicators for Heat Sensitive Substrates. Dulux have tested many grades of MDF board with Dulux Trimatrx® and most boards provide a good surface for coating. For outstanding results, Dulux recommend Trimatrx® MDF Board in conjunction with the Trimatrx® Powder Coat.

Under what conditions can powder coatings be applied?

Crosslink Powder Coatings Inc.
Powder coatings are generally a one-coat finish, applied to a properly cleaned and pretreated substrate. Prior to spraying, the powder coating material is generally sieved and then fluidized for 10 minutes to condition it. Powder coatings are a factory applied finish using specialized equipment. The equipment consists of electrostatic spray guns (manual or automatic), a powder spray booth, and an oven to bake (or cure) the coating.

How are these EP-ACRYLIC Coatings applied?

MDL Bath and Kitchen
The coatings are applied in two parts: base and catalyst. They are best applied with high velocity low pressure ( HVLP) spray equipment. These coatings do not produce the best results when either “rolled” or “sprayed” on through conventional spray equipment.

Can Albi coatings be applied to wood that is to be stained or varnished?

ALBI™ STEEL
ALBI MAX may be applied over wood stains with which it is chemically compatible. Only one light coat of the stain must be applied, otherwise the surface grain of the wood will become blocked and the ALBI MAX will not be absorbed. Refer to the ALBI leaflets for a list of some wood stains over which ALBI MAX may be applied.

Can powder coatings be applied straight onto metals substrates?

FAQ
Whilst powder coatings generally require no primers, it is important to provide a clean and pretreated surface for the powder coating to adhere to. Metals that are planned for internal location can escape the need for pretreatment, however it is advisable to provide some metal pretreatment such as a phosphate finish to steel or chromate finish to aluminium to ensure maximum performance of the finish.

Is it true that powder coatings can withstand any conditions and can even be applied to rusty metal?

FAQ
Unfortunately there is a myth that since powder coating is so much easier to apply than wet paints, and retains a very hard film, that powder coatings can withstand anything and everything. Indeed this carefree view has led to some disappointing applications of powder coatings. Powder coatings rely on a clean, pretreated surface like any and every other coating.

Can powder coatings be applied directly to metal substrates?

Crosslink Powder Coatings Inc.
While powder coatings normally require no primers, it is important to provide a clean and properly pretreated surface for the powder coating to adhere. For steel substrates, it is advisable to abrasively blast clean prior to coating and applying an iron or zinc phosphate pretreatment. For aluminum substrates, it is advisable to provide a chromate or chrome-free conversion coating to the aluminum surface. Chrome-free pretreatments are rapidly replacing hazardous chromate pretreatments.

Can powder coatings withstand any condition and be applied to oxidized substrates?

Crosslink Powder Coatings Inc.
Unfortunately, there is a myth that since powder coatings are so much easier to apply than liquid coatings, and offers a very hard film, they can withstand anything. This carefree approach has lead to some disappointing applications and negativity in selecting powder coatings for premier architectural projects. Powder coatings rely on a clean and properly pretreated substrate. Oxidation deposits, which are corroded material, must be removed prior to applying the powder coating.

Under what upper and lower temperature limitation can CERAM-KOTE coatings be applied?

Product Line
CERAM-KOTE epoxy and urethane coatings should not be applied below 40?F (4.4?C) or to a surface temperature above 120?F (49?C). If the temperature is below 40?F (4.4?C), the catalytic reaction is halted between Part A and Part B. If the temperature is above 120?F (49?C) the solvents (used in most of the CERAM-KOTE coatings) are forced out of the coating film too rapidly, the coating film gels too rapidly, and the coating film can end up with holidays.

What about "phase-coatings"?

Astronomy Binoculars - Frequently Asked Questions
There is another type of coating process used on some binoculars, called "phase-coating." Because of their design, roof prism binoculars actually split incoming light into two separate beams as it passes through their prisms. Unfortunately, after they are split, the two paths of light become "out of step" with each other. This in turn affects image quality. Phase coatings are applied to the roof prisms and are designed to re-merge the two paths of light for maximum performance.

What are lens coatings?

EyeCare Information on Eye Conditions
Chemical coatings on lenses can do a number of things: anti-reflective coatings increase the transmission of light through the lens; scratch-resistant coatings prevent scratches; mirror coatings reflect intense glare away from the eyes. All coatings increase the value and versatility of your sunglasses.

Why are lens coatings important?

EyeCare Information on Eye Conditions
