Higher level of health check gives a more accurate result whether servers are functioning properly. For example, a server that correctly returns an ICMP request, i.e. OK on ICMP check, does not mean the application running on that server is working properly. However, if a web server can return the right web page, i.e. OK on contents check, you will be able to say that server is still alive.

If the remote server is running sshd(8), it may be possible to ''tunnel'' certain services via ssh. This may be desirable, for example, to encrypt POP or SMTP connections, even though the software does not directly support encrypted communications. ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) is a protocol for mapping an Internet Protocol address (IP address) to a physical computer address that is recognized in the local network. ARP will translate your IP Address to the MAC Address that is configured on your computer.

Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) defines a small number of messages used for diagnostic and management purposes. ICMP depends on IP to move packets around the network on its behalf. LB-8000 will make a request of the page defined by system admin to the server regularly and check whether the keyword, also defined by system admin, is included in the page returned by that server. Some ISP's throttle the connection on the known default Bit Torrent ports 6881 - 6889 so changing the listening port of your client will help avoid the affects of this traffic restriction, some care should be taken when selecting a port see Here for known port nasties.

A port test is a network utility that enables one to test one or more of a server's ports to see if they are accepting connections. A server has many different ports each of which may or may not be setup to accept connections. Most web servers are setup to accept connections made from web browsers on port 80. If a server is down, the port would not be accepting connections.

Within the hardware architecture of a computer, each piece of unique hardware needs to have a direct path called an interrupt request line (IRQ) assigned to so it can talk to the computer's central processing unit (CPU) and find out what to do. The communication ports that are used by PSC portables and their related software also use these IRQ lines. If more than one piece of hardware is assigned the same IRQ, the controlling information sent to those pieces of hardware will get crossed.
