Why use dry nitrogen gas (N2)?

FAQ's :: Accumulators.com
Shop air has oxygen and when exposed to petroleum based fluids or grease, can diesel (explode) under pressure. Pure oxygen is even more volatile. Other gases are expensive, corrosive or explosive. There are several grades of nitrogen gas available. For use in bladder accumulators, we recommend Commercial/Industrial Grade. This is the most common grade available and the most cost effective. It has been used with bladder accumulators for over 50 years. The average purity is 99.5%.

Why do you use nitrogen assist gas?

Garcross Frequently Asked Questions about laser cutting proc...
Nitrogen assist laser cutting leaves an oxide free finish on both mild and stainless steel. Unlike oxygen assist cutting nitrogen produces a receptive surface for subsequent painting or coating with no problems of rusting. Using nitrogen assist cutting is a more expensive process but there are as indicated significant benefits. See similar questions...

Which AR Series hammers use a nitrogen gas pre-charge and how much gas should be in it?

FAQs - AR Series? Hammers (Mounted Breakers)

When (what kind of application, background gas) should the 100% N2 fuel be selected?

Teledyne Analytical Instruments | FAQ
When the background is H2, then we use the sample, span, and zero gases as fuel and the N2 connecting to the fuel port to dilute the H2. It is always necessary to Recalibrate / Re-standardize the analyzer when the fuel or air supply gases are changed. Refer to your manual for specifics. See similar questions...

Can these meters also be used with gases other than N2?

Flow meter, mass flow controller, mass flow meter, flowmeter...
All Sierra flow meters are calibrated with N2 unless otherwise specified. The reason is the “K-Factor” for other gases is nearly linear when one goes from N2 to almost any other gas. Other gases scale the signal and generate a slight offset. For each type of gas, this effect can be calculated and compensated by using a relatively simple "K-Factor". See similar questions...

So, how much nitrogen run-off is there?

Bioenergy and Biomass Frequently Asked Questions
Data from sites in the Southeastern U.S. show that after the initial year of establishment, nitrate losses under switchgrass and sweetgum decreased to less than 1 kg/ha compared with approximately 2-4 kg/ha from no-till corn. The highest N run-off was associated with rainfall occurring within a short period of time following fertilizer application in the spring - before the fertilizer had a chance to dissolve and move into the soil to be taken up by the plants. Why use Nitrogen for leak testing?

Air Care Automotive Vehicle Air Conditioning Service
We use Oxygen Free Nitrogen (OFN) for leak testing. It would be illegal to re-gas a system to use the refrigerant as a means of leak detection. The pure form of Nitrogen is a naturally occurring gas in the air that we breath and so is safe and legal to use. The Nitrogen is inserted into the system under high pressure thus simulating a system in operation and revealing any leaks in the system. See similar questions...

Can I use this meter for a gas mixture?

Flow meter, mass flow controller, mass flow meter, flowmeter...
Yes, you can use any number of gases in your mixture. The instruction manual gives simple math to determine the linear "k-Factor" to apply to the reading if you purchased your meter for air and use it for a mixture of Nitrogen and Argon as an example. Feel free to click the Technical tab on the left to download the instruction manual that gives very good examples. See similar questions...

What is nitrogen?

SOILPERFECT.com -- FAQs
Nitrogen is the soil element that makes plants green. A few other things also aid in plant coloring: chlorophyll, phosphorous and iron. Other than water, nitrogen is the biggest component of plants. It can account for up to 5 percent of the total weight of annual plants. Plants lacking nitrogen have a pale color instead of a lush green color. Extreme care is very important when applying nitrogen. The correct amount is wonderful but too much is extremely harmful to plants. See similar questions...

Can I use compressed air to dry the filter faster?

FAQs
No, this can blow the filter material right out of the wire mesh and ruin the filter. Pick a nice day to clean the filter and let it dry naturally. A low pressure air flow such as from an industrial drying machine or blow dryer will help the filter dry more quickly. See similar questions...

How about gas? Do I have to fill it after every use?

The People's Car Co-op
No. The member is responsible for ensuring the tank is at least one half full for the next user. If the gas level goes below 1/2, the member fills the tank and submits the receipt to The People's Car to have the cost deducted from their monthly bill. Return to top... See similar questions...

What is the nitrogen cycle?

Aquarium FAQ
The nitrogen cycle, or cycling process, is the nitrification of your aquarium where beneficial bacteria form to consume the harmful types of nitrogen. When you begin a new tank, you will go through the nitrogen cycle. Fish waste and uneaten food break down into the first phase of nitrogen, ammonia. This is the most toxic to fish and gets dangerous at even low levels. For the good bacteria to begin to grow, there must be some level of ammonia. See similar questions...

What's the difference between dry ice, liquid nitrogen, oil and water based smoke machines?

Smoke Machines FAQs
Dry ice and liquid nitrogen smoke machines both create a heavy low lying fog effect. The materials they use to create this are often difficult and expensive to get hold of for most people, hard to store, and the effect can now be easily created on demand by new electronic water based versions. Disney theme parks tend to use nitrogen foggers as the cost of liquid nitrogen is less in bulk than special effect fog fluids. See similar questions...
