The Accuplacer Test evaluates English and math competency. This is a placement test with three sections (reading, sentence structure, and math). English 101A or equivalent (ENG 1A) is required for admission. The English reading comprehension requirement is met through "clearing" English 163. The math requirement is met through "clearing" Math 151 (Algebra). Students take the test at the Placement Center in Building 1, fourth floor, Room 1405A.

If for any reason, you need to re-test in one or more areas, you will need to pay a fee of $10 per part.

All students must take the reading portion of the Accuplacer Test. Some students may have already taken an English composition course that is equivalent to the English 101A requirement. Students who do not "clear" English 163 must take English 163 at Ohlone or a reading substitution course (see a counselor for the list). The math requirement can be cleared by taking the Accuplacer math test or taking a math course of Elementary Algebra or higher from an accredited college in the U.S.A.

The Accuplacer test was developed, standardized and validated by the College Board. It is used at over 300 colleges in the US. We began using it here in 1992. The results are based on your answers to a series of questions. If you do not take the test seriously, or if you are not feeling well when you take the test, the results may be poor.

Accuplacer consists of three sections (reading, writing and math). Most students take three hours to complete all three sections, but there is no time limit. The math, reading, and writing sections will be multiple choice, with the writing section requiring an essay. If you think your skills are better than the test indicated there are things you can do. During the first week of class, teachers will test you to determine whether you are in the right class. These tests tell your instructor where you fit best. You can then change classes if the tests show that you're in the wrong class. You are also eligible to take the Accuplacer test six months after you take it the first time.

There is no cost for the assessment, if taken as the initial assessment. It is highly recommended that you take all portions of the test at one sitting.

When you wish to take the test we will ask you to fill out a form, you must complete all the areas in blue by either giving information or ticking boxes in response to a question. You must give your name and date of birth as well as details about your home address / postcode. We can contact you with you results by letter, phone or text, and for these reasons we need an address, landline or mobile number, which must be written clearly on the form.

With few exceptions, Lee College administers the Accuplacer whenever the Counseling Center is open. Students are advised to contact the Counseling Center to reserve a test time. Walk-ins may test if space is available. Accuplacer scores are available immediately following testing.

If you have tested within the past three years, you should not need to retest. Call the Assessment Center at 978-556-3872 to ensure that your placements are up to date or to inquire about using CPT Accuplacer scores from another college.

If you are sexually active, make syphilis testing part of your routine. We encourage you to get tested for syphilis every six months. Some folks may want to consider more frequent testing. For instance, a number of medical providers urge sexually active individuals with HIV to get tested for syphilis every three months. Why? Syphilis makes it easier to get or give HIV, 3 to 5 times easier in fact. And syphilis can advance very rapidly in HIV-positive people.

Genotypes are strains of a particular virus. We know that there are 6 genotypes for hepatitis C. Genotype 1 is the most common in the U.S.; genotypes 2 and 3 are the most responsive to treatment. It is possible to have more than one genotype. It is useful to have a genotype test before deciding whether or not to start hepatitis C treatment.

Patients with history of ischemic stroke or TIA who are not already known to have AF may be tested to help decide which patients are at highest risk for undiagnosed AF and who may benefit the most from more extensive ambulatory cardiac monitoring.The test can only be ordered by a physician and is not for screening the general population. HIV test is most accurate if done three months after your most recent risk occurrence such as unprotected sex, sharing needles etc. You do not need to do an HIV test on a regular basis unless you feel you have been at risk for the virus.

There is no single test that can check for all STDs. We offer tests for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, hepatitis B, vaginal infections, genital herpes, as well as Pap tests for cervical cancer, on a confidential basis.
