far as we know there are no existing Queensland census records with the exception of early Moreton Bay records when the colony was part of New South Wales. The 1828 census records have been published. There are fragments of some later new South Wales returns. These are held by State Records of New South Wales. See our links page. Researchers sometimes use electoral rolls in lieu of census returns. However be aware that there are a number of limitations. Voting was not compulsory until 1915.

Federal population census records, 1790-1930, are available for research at the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, and in Regional Archives throughout the country. In 1920, the census asked "if naturalized, year of naturalization." In 1930, the Census asked only if the person were naturalized. A - All UK Census Returns are available on microfilm in the USA through the LDS (Mormon) Family History Centers, located all over the States. Look in the phone book under "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints". For a nominal fee ($3.50, I think it is now), you can order a film from Salt Lake City, Utah, and it will arrive at your local LDS Family History Center within two weeks, and you'll be able to view it there for about one month before it goes back to Salt Lake City. The censuses taken in the 19th and 20th centuries were not indexed at the time. To find a particular family or individual in the census records one therefore needed to know the census district and village or street address where they were living. The census was taken every 10 years, starting with the year 1790. Due to privacy laws census records are sealed for 72 years (In 2012, the 1940 census will be made public). If you know where your ancestor lived in a year ending in "0" from 1930 back to 1810 you can receive an actual page of the census in the census taker's own handwriting. Yes, the Missouri State Archives does have census records, both federal and state but only for Missouri. The Missouri State Archives has the federal census records for Missouri for 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1890 Special, 1900, 1910, and 1920, and 1930. Some state census records are available for some counties. State census records were taken every four years beginning in 1824 and ending in 1876. Very few of these state census records have survived.
