Students undertake two 14 week field placements during their degree. These are undertaken in human service agencies, and are supervised by agency staff. The placements make for a long academic year and students should ensure that they are able to fit the placements in with their other commitments. Placements may be undertaken part time.

Psychology fieldwork courses are usually 300-level courses offered in the School of SSHS (i.e., MPSY 3__ ) and contain the word "fieldwork" in the course title e.g., Life Cycle II Fieldwork, AIDS Fieldwork, Childhood Disorders Fieldwork, Fieldwork with Children, Abnormal Psychology Fieldwork, and so on. The title of the fieldwork course indicates the type of clients or population with whom the student will work.

In addition to a minimum of 60 hours of work in an agency required over the course of the semester, fieldwork courses require that the student write a substantial term paper that integrates the field experience with appropriate library research related to the practicum experience.

Although fieldwork and independent study research courses are highly recommended for psychology majors, they are not a requirement for all psychology majors. Only students majoring in psychology in the School of SSHS are required to complete a fieldwork or an independent study research course; this requirement is part of their school core, not the psychology major.

Accommodations, if needed, can be negotiated between the instructor, the disabled student services office, and the student. Selecting a site that is close to the student's home to minimize the transportation requirements may be helpful. The student could also be given priority in fieldwork selection to help accommodate his needs. Extending the length of the fieldwork to allow participation on a part-time basis could also be considered. There are several electronic options to consider.

The course instructor will present a list of fieldwork agencies from which the student will choose his or her field placement. These agencies vary with regard to location, hours during which they are open (days, weekends, evenings), and type of population they serve.

Fieldwork assignments entail meaningful contact with the population served by the agency rather than providing only an opportunity to observe clients and procedures at the field placement. It is expected that students will have direct contact with the clients rather than being assigned only menial work such as filing papers or taking telephone messages.

Fieldwork is a three-quarter sequence of field-based administrative activities that is cooperatively planned by you, your district supervisor (usually your principal), and a university facilitator. Your cohort coordinator will provide an orientation and a Fieldwork Handbook to assist you in the process. Fieldwork provides the opportunity for practical, "nuts and bolts" development of leadership skills. All coursework can be completed while working full-time.

After spending the first three terms in residence at Cambridge, students wishing to conduct fieldwork may apply to work away from the University, normally for a period of no more than three terms. There must be good academic reasons for seeking leave to work away; for example, a need directly related to the student's approved topic.

Absolutely not. VFC team members regularly participate in 'real' field trips and consider this an essential learning experience. The aims of the VFC can be summarised under four criteria; Utilising myriad possible (virtual) views for interaction with the landscape and creating views which cannot be seen in reality. Enabling students to work in physically challenging environments (such as the Polar regions, submarine and subterranean areas) that are otherwise inaccessible.

To register your internship, you should use the five-digit call number listed in the registration guide and Directory of Classes to add the internship to your schedule. This is the same process you use to add all SIPA courses. Students are not required to register for fieldwork or internship credits.

All fieldwork costs must be requested at the same time as you are nominated for the studentship. NERC will not accept any subsequent claims. Approved costs are paid directly to the institution and you should seek reimbursement within the department.

No. These programs are designed for people who want to learn and practice archaeology including those without previous fieldwork experience. You will work under the close supervision of professional archaeologists that will teach you what you need to know.

Internship/Fieldwork is a requirement for the two year full-time MIA and MPA programs. However, students are not required to register for fieldwork or internship credits. If you choose to register for fieldwork or internship credits, you must do so in either the semester in which you are currently interning or anytime after the fieldwork or internship has been completed. SIPA is not permitted to register students retroactively. No more than 6 credits of fieldwork can count toward the MIA degree.

A difficult question to answer. If you can average 15/20 minutes/km you can probably move up, but remember the 3 hour time limit, and ask yourself how long you can realistically concentrate on your navigation. The biggest mistake we see is trying to do too much too soon.

Most of the work in a fieldwork course takes place outside of the classroom. Fieldwork courses require that the student spend at least 60 hours over the course of the semester working in an appropriate agency (e.g., mental hospital, mental health clinic, school for children diagnosed as "learning disabled," child care center, geriatric facility, rehabilitation center, and so on). The type of agency available for the field placements will vary depending on the content of the course.

At least two fieldwork courses are offered each fall and spring semester; fieldwork courses are not usually offered in the winter or summer sessions due to the short time available to complete the 60-hour fieldwork and term paper requirements. Nor are these courses usually offered during evening or Saturday hours because of the difficulty in finding agencies that offer professional supervision for the student during these hours.

Only students enrolled in the substance abuse fieldwork certification program may enroll in substance abuse fieldwork courses. Yes. You may use one of the substance abuse fieldwork courses to fulfill the psychology category 6 requirement or the SSHS school core fieldwork requirement only if you are registered in the substance abuse certification program. If you are pursuing a minor in the substance abuse program, you may double or triple count this fieldwork course.
