Fishing in Costa Rica is great all year round, many believe it has a lot to do with the different phases of the moon. As far as the weather, Costa Rica has two seasons: The High Season also known as the "dry season" beings towards the end of November and runs through early May. The Green Season fluctuates annually; however, tends to being in late May and runs through November.

Costa Rica is a year-round destination since it has a tropical climate. The dry season is from approximately mid-December through April. The rainy season, or "green season", is generally from May through November but this does not mean it rains everyday. Usually there is sun in the morning and by afternoon it rains warm tropical showers and clears by late afternoon. There are no required inoculations for Costa Rica, but it is a good idea to check with your physician for recommendations of optional inoculations and health precautions. Costa Rica is suffering an outbreak of dengue fever (both classic and hemorrhagic), although the incidence remains lower than in other Central American countries. It really depends on what you want to fish for but if your like most folks its Marlin. A good rule of thumb is the hotter it is the better the fishing will be. Warm water is what they're looking for. Generally speaking no. The problem that arises with a full moon is it sometimes effects the live bait availability. The chuhuilla and caballitos tend to swim a little deeper making them harder to catch. However, a full moon also brings out the Dorado so there is a slight advantage there. See similar questions...

If you are interested in hiking, the best time to visit is July through October. Trails are typically still covered with snow through the middle of June. Several periods offer their own advantages: the first 15 days of January, and the period comprised between August 1 and August 15 are the best periods for hotel discounts. August is a great month until August 20 because car trafic is much lighter. May and June are usually great months for their mild temperatures. September can be great during an Indian summer, but the hotels get crowded. The period extending from right before Christmas to righ after New Year Eve is terrifically romantic. Most visitors come to the Canyon from May through September. If you decide to come then, be aware that the high season, while beautiful, means large crowds and parking at a premium. In the off-season from October through April, crowds are minimal and seeing the Canyon with a dusting of snow is worth the trip!
