When you start an evaluation, each time you hit the "Next" button, your responses for that page will be saved. You can return to finish it anytime before the evaluation period closes by logging into the system and clicking on the course again. Any courses with incomplete evaluations will be at the top of your course listings and will have "resume FCE" next to it.

Everybody's Web browser crashes or locks up once in a while, so it doesn't necessarily mean there's something wrong with your computer. If you experience a crash but you still have control of your mouse, close all of your programs, disconnect from the Internet, and restart your computer. Then reconnect to the Net and restart your browser. If you're system has locked up completely, turn off the power switch, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.

Sometimes, your Internet connection may be interrupted somehow. If this happens, simply connect back to the Internet and go back to the chat room. Unfortunately, when your chat session is interrupted, the chat box is erased and you will not be able to see the previous discussion. But you can always read the chat logs later by clicking on the "Chat Logs" link on the Course Menu.

Do you have other third-party browser plug-ins installed on your system? Some of these plug-ins don't play so well with the Job Search Toolbar. If you want to continue using the Job Search Toolbar, we recommend you uninstall other browser plug-in software and see if that corrects the problem. We've have been reported that messed up JavaScript could return a VC++ runtime error and crash Internet Explorer on a few windows configuration. The solution is to setup carefully the JavaScript file (copy/paste existing line to add parameter).

Phantom is generally quite stable, but here is a list of basic things to try if you experience crashes when running Phantom. On Windows 95 or 98, make sure "Disable the Phantom cache while indexing" is checked on the Robot Preferences page in Phantom. This is necessary to work around memory problems in Windows 95/98, and will significantly impact performance. For this reason Windows 95/98 is not recommended for running Phantom.

Any information that you entered into the evaluation is lost. You will need to restart your browser and login to http://www.yale.edu/evaluate again.

If you have laptop mode enabled and your machine crashes, then you will lose up to MAX_LOST_WORK_SECONDS seconds of work. Ideally, there should be someone around 24 hours a day to make sure the system is put back up when it dies. A reasonable compromise for companies that aren't large enough to do this is to be sure someone's on the system during peak usage hours, to make sure the system is reset when it goes down.
