There are several trains that regularly visit Namibia from South Africa. These are luxurious trains such as the Shongololo Express, Bushveld Train Safaris and the Rovos Rail these operators visit the country on scheduled itineraries. Namibia also has its own luxurious train known as the Desert Express. The train is owned by Trans Namib Holdings Ltd. It offers overnight scenic drives between Windhoek and Swakopmund, stopping along the way for excursions.

Namibia is an all round destination. Not advice to travel during the rainy season for visitors determined to view wildlife.

Namibia enjoys sunshine virtually every day of the year, and you can expect hot summers (October – April) and pleasant winters (May – September) in this arid climate. Daytime summer temperatures can rise to 40ºC/104ºF and drop to around 20ºC/68ºF at night. Winter days are sunny and mild to warm with temperatures of about 25ºC/77ºF, which may drop to as low as 5ºC/41ºF at night. The coastal region is cool and dry throughout the year.

Summer is from November to April, with hot and sunny days. Daytime temperatures can rise to 35C, but drop at night to around 14-18C. The coastal region is cool and dry through the year. The rainy season lasts from February to March and rainfall varies from 50mm to 700mm depending on the region. Winter is from May to October and days are generally dry, sunny and mild to warm. Temperatures reach about 23C and drop at night to between 0 - 10C.

Safaris are available year-round, although the best game-viewing periods are during the dry winter months of May through September. The country's peak travel season is from July to October. The best months for bird-viewing are November to April. [top]

Most Namibia safari companies set specific age limits for children. For safety reasons, children five and under might not be allowed on game drives in the parks and reserves, where terrain may be rough.
