MBR disks support only four partition table entries. If more partitions are wanted, a secondary structure known as an extended partition is necessary. Extended partitions can then be subdivided into one or more logical disks. By convention, Windows creates MBR disk partitions and logical drives on cylinder boundaries based on the reported geometry, although this information no longer has any relationship to the physical characteristics of the hardware (disk driver or RAID controller).

R-Studio recovers lost files from deleted or damaged partitions to another location. For safety reasons it does not even try to recover partitions in the wrong locations.

The Protective MBR, beginning in sector 0, precedes the GPT partition table on the disk. The MBR contains one type 0xEE partition that spans the disk.

The primary purpose of table partitioning is to improve the performance of concurrent inserts to a table by reducing contention for the last page of a page chain. Partitioning can also potentially improve performance by making it possible to distribute a table's I/O over multiple database devices. By default, ASE stores a table's data in one double-linked set of pages called a page chain.

The Protective MBR protects GPT disks from previously released MBR disk tools such as Microsoft MS-DOS FDISK or Microsoft Windows NT Disk Administrator. These tools are not aware of GPT and do not know how to properly access a GPT disk. Legacy software that does not know about GPT interprets only the Protected MBR when it accesses a GPT disk.

Soft Partitioning as available with OpenVMS Alpha Galaxy is not available with OpenVMS 8.3 Integrity. This capability will be forthcoming with the introduction of HP Integrity Virtual Machines (HPVM) in a subsequent release of OpenVMS Integrity. It is currently planned for 2007.

This has been the subject of some rather heated "discussions" in the group recently. If nothing else, it's fair to say that there's no consensus on what is the best way to set up your partitions. What Linux allows you to do is assign certain directories to certain storage devices (which include hard disk partitions). So for example, you could assign directory A to partition X and directory B to partition Y. Any file created in A gets stored on partition X, any created in B goes onto Y.

There are two main advantages to partitioning: speed and file size. If you are able to partition your hard disk so that temporary files and the applications that create them are in one partition, and more permanent files and the applications that create them in another partition, you are diminishing the time the Mac has to wade through fragmented files to read them.

Do the caches support persistent connections? Yes, Squid supports HTTP/1.1 persistent connections, subject to a few restrictions: Squid doesn't block any request to wait for a busy connection to become idle. It always opens another connection. Squid does not yet support chunked encoding. A response without a Content-length header always closes a connection.

It places "clean" partition code onto the partition of your hard disk. It does **not change the partition information, however. The /MBR command-line switch is not officially documented and was introduced in DOS 5.0 It does sometimes, and when it does it us usually fatal (for the common user, anyway). MBR: Microbe-Be-Ready cultures can be directly added to wine after being rehydrated. Standard cultures must go through a build-up protocol prior to inoculation of the wine. The standard build-up process can take from 5 to 20 days to prepare.
