Both of these plasters are typically used for interior applications, but fresco lime plaster is composed of aged lime putty and fine aggregates.

This is a finishing plaster used as a final skim internally. We supply three grades of lime plaster - 2/1, 3/2 or 1/1 which are the ratios of a fine sand to mature lime putty. The 2/1 grade is suitable for plastering onto haired coarse float coats, the 3/2 is better for feathering into existing plasterwork and the 1/1 is appropriate for matching the finest historic finishes.

It is very difficult to successfully apply lime plaster to plasterboards and offers no real advantages for the building. If you want to avoid applying a very dense sterile modern gypsum skim coat on top of boards you could use our textured natural plasters, these will add character and depth to your walls and ceilings. If you wish to have a lime finish on boards, for instant on a ceiling, to avoid having to put up a new lath and plaster ceiling, you can use clay plasterboards.

Slaked lime putty is quicklime (burned limestone) that has been mixed with water and allowed to age. Slaked lime putty for frescoes is finer than regular slaked lime, and it's been aged longer in order to make it smoother. This is crucial for frescoe work, which depends on very smooth surfaces.

Hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide) has more neutralizing power than the more common dolomitic (calcium-magnesium carbonate) limestone. Dolomitic lime is usually sold in 40-50lb. Bags vs. the small bag of Hydrated lime. This means that for gardening purposes, you should apply about two-thirds the recommended amount of Hydrated lime.

Lime is calcium oxide applied in granular form. Lime helps improve lawn color and density, controls thatch, and increases root development. Lime balances the pH levels in the soil that have been affected by the fertilizer applications throughout the year. A lime render is a coating of lime-based material that was traditionally applied over rough, unsightly brickwork or rubblestone masonry walls. Non-hydraulic lime stuccos and hydraulic lime stuccos are common lime-based renders. In addition to these traditional applications, lime renders can restore some measure of protection to masonry buildings that have been sandblasted. (Sandblasting a masonry building is incredibly damaging.

This is more of an old world look that has a real texture to it. A thin layer of joint compound is applied to the wall first, then a primer, followed by a basecoat, and finally colorwashed.

There are numerous plastering options from White Marbleite to Pebble-tec. All told the plaster is normally no more than 1/2" thickness.

Both kinds of lime have the same acid-neutralizing value when applied at equivalent rates. However, they differ chemically. Calcitic lime contains calcium carbonate only. Dolomitic lime is a mixture of calcium and magnesium carbonates that contains at least six percent magnesium. Most of the lime used for agricultural purposes is dolomitic.

Venetian Plaster is a synthetic acrylic material that handles easier and gives a smoother finish than traditional cement based plasters of old. It is translucent in appearance and can be seen through until built up in thickness. Most applications will be 2-3 separate layers depending on the desired effect. The surface can then be burnished in areas where a glossy, polished look is wanted. Burnishing is done with Venetian Plaster Spatulas, available for the product.

Whenever you determine there is a need for lime. (The idea that there is a correct time of year to lime goes back to the labor requirements of a subsistence farm. If you don't have more free time than subsistence farmers you are doing something wrong.)

Hydraulic lime mortar is a lime mortar that hardens in damp or even wet conditions through a chemical reaction rather than exposure to air. (This is in contrast to standard, or non-hydraulic lime mortars, which harden by absorbing carbon dioxide, a process known as carbonation.) Hydraulic qualities are created when clay is included in the lime mixture.
