There have been scattered reports that many PS2 games aren't working properly with the PlayStation 3 in Japan, but firmware updates are being produced to alleviate these issues. Ultimately Sony's goal is 100% backwards compatibility, although we haven't yet seen a running compatibility list.

I imagine that most devices use simple bilinear filtering to upscale an image. The downside of this is softer edges. I think I’ve seen descriptions of algorithms that attempt to find hard edges in the source material and to preserve them after upscaling. For some reason, Mac releases have been few and far between. If you like text adventures, there are always the Beam Software games (see section 3), but they are hard to find and today's teenagers seem to have too short attention span for text adventures, anyway. Note that only games for real money are recorded and saved. Once you click on the "game history" button in the game lobby, a "game table" window opens and an "open file" window which directs you automatically to the "saved games" folder in the Play65™ program directory. If there are no files listed in the "open file" window, close this window and see if the "automatically save all games" check box is checked.
