Per Seattle Residential Code Sec R303.1 (pg 44), all habitable rooms require window area glazing equal to either 8% of floor area or, as an exception, artificial light providing an average illumination of 6 footcandles over the area of the room measured at a height of 30” above floor level. Normal incandescent light bulbs are inadequate, but fluorescent provide a good light source, as do halogen and grow lights. I don't know what the problem with your tree is but it's not the Tillandsias fault. They are NOT parasitic, and will not harm your tree. These have most, but not all of the color spectrum; leaving off bits at each end of the color range if you will.
