How Do I Plant Bulbs in Clay Soil?

Bulbs Forum FAQ: General Information
Skip MNZ4 - You have 8 inches of good soil in Zone 5 so I would think you could plant the bulbs at 6, maybe 7, inches. The problem is not that tulips won't do well in clay but it's that the clay underlayment acts as a barrier to good drainage and if you have really wet conditions this may, indeed, lead to rotting of the bulbs. The Hyacinths can go in at the same depth as the tulips while the Muscari can go in at 5 inches.

When do I plant my perennial bulbs?

FAQ
Plant them in September. Just a suggestion... It's nice to plant clusters of bulbs (3, 5, etc.), as you will get a better show in the Spring. Soil should be amended with peat moss. Heavy clay soil in the Winter holds water. This will make your bulbs rot. Just a suggestion... Don't plant your bulbs near your annuals, as too much watering will rot the bulbs.

From which part from The Netherlands are you?

Let-Me-Stay-For-A-Day.com - The Official Website
This question is mostly asked by people who live in a BIG country themselves. There it is very usual to ask from what part you are from. I then have to explain how really small The Netherlands, or Holland, is. We don't really talk about parts. My country has 12 provinces and I live in Overijssel (which means 'on the other side of the IJssel river'). And the capital city of Overijssel is Zwolle. If you drive one hour east from Amsterdam, you'll get there.

Can I plant flowers or bulbs at the base of my tree?

The National Forest - Gift Shop
We do not encourage this, primarily because the young trees will need to be weeded for the first 3 years. This entails the spraying off of all vegetation from around the base of the tree to allow unhindered growth. There are also issues regarding the woodland ecology; many flower species will be inappropriate in a native wood.

Can you plant bulbs in beds with ground covers?

What Kind of Ground Cover Can I Plant with bulbs?

Bulbs Forum FAQ: General Information
Jen - CA/9 - I planted 'johnny jump-ups' Violas over my Narcissus paper whites last month, just because I thought they'd look pretty together. Apparently (though I didn't know this at the time), the johnny jump-ups return year after year so they'll die off at about the time my Narcissus go dormant, and then they'll come back up together. Thus, I won't have to worry about watering the Violas when the Narcissus shouldn't be, next Summer.

Is it worth the investment to upgrade to a full spectrum bulb rather than the standard bulbs?

hydroponics FAQ : Canadian Wholesale Hydroponics. 1 (877) 22...
While the standard bulbs perform very well, I have seen first hand the benefit of full spectrum lamps such as Hortilux, Solarmax and Sunmaster and can say with confidence these lamps are definitely worth every penny. But if you are on a limited budget and you buy the clears you will still get excellent results as they are still a very high quality lamp. The full spectrum bulbs give you a combination of red and blue light similar to HPS and MH mixed together which is best for optimum growth.
