CRNAs are professional registered nurses who are independently licensed to deliver anesthetics. These specialists work in every healthcare arena in which anesthesia is delivered, from major urban medical centers to the offices of private practice physicians. It is estimated that CRNAs administer more than 65% of the 26 million anesthetics delivered in the U.S. each year.

Anesthesia is provided by Physician Anesthesia Services. This group of MD anesthesiologists also provides anesthesia for Swedish Hospital Medical Center.

A nurse attends an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Education Program to receive an extensive education in anesthesia. Upon graduation, the nurse must pass a national certification exam to become a CRNA.

A Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) is an individual educated in the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery separately, who possesses evidence of certification according to the requirements of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. They primarily work in hospitals and some in birth centers, there are a rare few that offer home-birth.

Upon successful completion of the BSN program, the State Board of Nursing reviews the records of graduates to determine eligibility to take the NCLEX-RN exam. The State Board of Nursing retains the right to deny a graduate permission to take the exam if he/she has been convicted of a crime. A registered nurse license is awarded following the passing of the NCLEX.
