To collect a child support obligation, we need to know where the non-custodial parent is working. We will then serve a Wage Assignment so that the obligation is automatically deducted from his or her wages.

A custodial parent may withdraw from services if she/he was the person who applied for services or a case was opened when they went on cash assistance. If there is money owed to a state, CSSD will continue to collect the state debt. Any private pension that you are receiving from a base period employer may be deducted from your benefit rate. If you owe child support payments, a deduction may be made from your benefit check and sent to the Bureau of Family Support.

Child support is defined by law as the ongoing monetary expenditures and payments necessary to cover a child’s living and medical expenses. Both parents have a legal duty to provide financial support for their children. The court may order either or both parents to make ongoing payments to cover a child’s living and medical expenses.

Recent law gives the Federal government authority to make agreements with other countries so the Department of State is negotiating with several countries to establish agreements leading to federal declarations of reciprocity. Many individual States already have agreements with foreign countries to collect child support. Contact your State Child Support Enforcement (CSE) Office to learn if there is an agreement with the country in which the non-custodial parent lives.

Part of our application process includes a limited power of attorney form for you to sign. This gives us permission to change the address of record for you at the state registry to our address. If payments go through the registry, they are forwarded on to us; we deduct our fee and then mail you a check. If a payment is mailed directly to you, forward the payment to us so that the payment can be processed appropriately.

Yes, as long as the party who applied for our services has not withdrawn we will continue to enforce all available options to collect the arrears. Interest will still accrue on the arrears and will be reported to the Credit Bureaus, PFD and IRS. Yes. The child support agency or the courts can modify the order if the noncustodial parent's income has increased or decreased enough to cause a change that is greater than 15% in child support.

The following are ways that DCP ensures that its students are supported: Teachers communicate with parents after homework is missed; parent conferences with teachers and administrators are available and welcome; Math and Literacy remediation classes are available; Daily tutorial is available to all students where they can receive individualized help. Although DCP works hard to support and encourage all of its students, we understand that DCP is not for every student.

Yes. Your local CSEA can help you establish paternity and get a support order, regardless of where the father lives. In some cases, this can even be done if he lives in another country.
