Yes. The ThunderBolt may be powered by the supplied power adapter. The adapter jack is labeled "9V DC" and is located on the back of the unit above the batttery compartment door. Only Spectrum-approved low-noise adapters are recommended for use with the ThunderBolt. Many "off-the-shelf" adapters produce too much noise for proper operation of the unit. Spectrum offers 120v, 220v, and 12v adapters for use with ThunderBolt.

Pick one; they're all good. Any GPS receiver that can get pick up enough GPS satellites to get a fix on your position will work fine. The GPS receiver is not required, although it helps a lot to pinpoint the exact location. If you do not have a GPS and cannot borrow one, make sure you have a very detailed map of the area, a good compass, and good navigation skills. However, data transfer can be effected using a USB cable if a serial COM Port is emulated by the GPS receiver. The NMEA default Baud rate is 4800 Bit/s. Some GPS receivers deviate however from it. The SC-GPS-1 JENTRO runs e.g. with 115200 Bit/s. Please set the appropriate Baud rate in the menu "Options" in GPSViewer, Wayviewer, and LocViewer. That means that the GPS receiver could successfully be connected, but that no useful data come in. Like ISA the bus, PC/104 has 4 voltages available: +5v, -5v, +12v, -12v. The +5v supply is the most important and many PC/104 systems can run using it alone. Current levels range from 100ma up to many amps depending on the perpherials in the system. Vendors detail the power requirements for each module on their data bus. Not necessarily, GPSViewer, Wayviewer, and LocViewer work with almost any factory setting. Nevertheless it is reasonable to let the GPS receiver send exactly the data which are also processed afterwards, in order to not waste the reduceded computing power of the mobile phones. GPSViewer, Wayviewer, and LocViewer are able to process the NMEA 0183 sentences GGA, VTG, and RMC. This question is often preceded by "How often does OmniSTAR transmit corrections"? The perception is that a user will only get a position fix when a new correction is received from OmniSTAR.
