Many of the cars on the road today have timing belts. Like a fan belt, a timing belt should be replaced before it breaks. The timing belt needs to be replaced every 50,000-90,000 miles on most cars, but the exact time interval depends on the make and model of your car. If you were to wait too long and your belt breaks while you are driving down the road, your engine valve train loses its coordination. This can have horrible results. See similar questions...

Because these coils are switched on and off rapidly, they vibrate and cause the noise you hear. Since these noises are often very loud, the technologist will give you some type of hearing protection. How does the timing work?

The Racing System -- FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
In all the races we've done with The Racing System, we've never used an external timing source. We've never found it necessary. Instead, we use the computer clock for all timing and coordinate with any external source by manual methods. Quite accurate synchronization can be achieved this way and with enough precision to satisfy any normal requirements. We have also found that less complexity means less that can go wrong on race day. We use digital watches for our timekeeping. See similar questions...
