After searching your own neighborhood, stop by your local animal shelter to report the lost pet, view the strays at the shelter and check through found reports. You can visit the shelter as often as you wish, but you should at least try and stop in every couple of days to make sure the animal has not been brought in. Descriptions of the same animal can vary from one person to the next, so don't rely on a phone call to identify your pet.

Search everywhere. Inside and outside, in bushes, in tight corners, in your neighbours' houses, garages and sheds. Check with all your neighbours to see if any of them have taken the pet in. If it is a dog you've lost and you're in a dog control area you should call them. Also, call the shelter to give a description of the missing pet, including tattoo number if applicable. Place posters wherever you can (ie: veterinarian's offices), local business bulletin boards and at the shelter.

If you've lost your pet, call the police department at (651) 458-2850, Monday thru Friday between 7:00 am to 4:30 pm. If they've brought in your pet, they can tell you how to recover it, otherwise they will take your name, phone number and a description of the pet. Once an animal is turned in, if it is licensed, the police department will attempt to contact the registered owner at the phone number given at the time the license was issued.

Email us letting us know you need your registration code. Include your full name, mailing address, approximate timeframe when you purchased, and the email address you likely used when you purchased. Don't forget to mention which program you had purchased.

Contact your local police department first, then check with animal control and your local shelter. Remember, if your pet has identification tags or an implanted microchip, it will make it easier to be reunited with your pet.

Call Gaston County Animal Control (704-922-8677/8) and ask if your pet has been turned in. Please remember that many animals are turned in daily. It is possible that the person on the phone may not be aware of every animal and that your description may not match the description given when the animal was turned in. Go to Gaston County Animal Control every day if at all possible. Check in the office and all the cages where the animals are kept.
