What is a thermocouple?

TempTrak Transmitters - Binsfeld Engineering Inc. - Rotary T...
A thermocouple is another type of temperature sensor in which two wires of different metals (e.g. Iron and Constantine) are connected together at the point of temperature measurement (hot junction) and connected at the other end in an ambient temperature location (cold or reference junction). The dissimilar metals generate a low level current from the hot junction to the cold junction that is sensed.

What is an RTD?

TempTrak Transmitters - Binsfeld Engineering Inc. - Rotary T...
RTD (Resistive Temperature Device) is a sensor that changes resistance with temperature in a linear relationship. RTDs are the most common temperature sensors used with rotary temperature transmitters. They may be specified as PT-100 indicating platinum-tungsten with a resistance of 100 at 0? C, PT-200, or PT-2000 and typically have a temperature coefficient of a = 0.00385. See similar questions...

Can you explain the pilot system/thermocouple feature?

Ever turn the gas on your outdoor grill, proceed to click the igniter button...click click click... click click....POOOF! Finally the gas ignites, blowing a flame in your face and scaring you half to death! Now, imagine that happening with 10 times the amount of gas! Companies who offer spark ignition systems on their machines sell you this real and definite safety hazard! Let me explain how our pilot system works. See similar questions...

Is there a temporary fix for a broken thermocouple?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR L&L CERAMIC KILNS
If you have one of the exposed Type K thermocouples you can break away some of the ceramic at the end and twist the two wires together. Or you can use an acetylene torch to reweld the tip (using Borax to dip the hot tip into afterwards to prevent undue oxidation). This may get you by for a little while. There is no way to repair one of the industrial metal sheathed thermocouples. See similar questions...

Can I just replace the thermistor in this unit?

Teledyne Analytical Instruments | FAQ
No, you cannot just replace the thermistor, you must replace the whole cell-place assembly. which includes the 100k thermistor, ignitor coil, and the collector. These components are welded. The replacement sub-assembly is p/n B13207. See similar questions...

What thermistor should be used while working with LDD-10?

national semiconductor, russian gold wafer, semiconductors w...
Our driver is designed to use thermistor of 10 kOhm+-5% at +25C as a standard temperature sensor. However, it may be easily re-configured by the user (instructions in the Manual) for different Peltier thermocoolers and thermistors. If you can point parameters of TEC and thermistor used by you, we may configure the driver by ourselves before shipping to you. See similar questions...

My thermocouples keep burning out. What can I do to improve thermocouple life?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR L&L CERAMIC KILNS
If you are using 14 gauge thermocouples at least upgrade to 8 gauge (these use thicker wire). Better yet get the Industrial Mullite Thermocouple Protection Tube. Platinum thermocouples (which are very expensive) can work with the DynaTrol but the DynaTrol has to be specially rebuilt. See hotkilns.com/stc.pdf. Type S thermocouples will not work with the Truview Pyrometer System. See similar questions...

Where along the probe of a thermocouple is temperature sensed?

Frequently Asked Questions - Proheat Inc.
Most commonly in the very tip of the thermocouple probe, however other locations can be specified on a special order basis. See similar questions...

How do I calculate the resistence of a thermistor?

FAQ's Frequently Asked Questions - Cantherm
B or beta value is the thermal exponent of the NTC thermistor, which is defined as the ratio of the difference between the napierian logarithms of the zero power resistance at two temperatures to the difference between the reciprocals of the two temperatures. See similar questions...

Can I use any type of thermocouple with a Digitry controller?

Digitry Company - Temperature Controllers
Answer: Digitry controllers are calibrated for only Type K, Type R, or Type S thermocouples. You must specify the type of thermocouple to be used for each channel when you order the controller. See similar questions...

Do I need special wire for connecting my thermocouple?

Digitry Company - Temperature Controllers
Answer: You should use special thermocouple extension wire to connect a thermocouple to a Sending Unit or to a GB1. You do not need special extension wire to connect the Sending Unit to the GB4 or GB5. A popular Type K thermocouple sold by Digitry includes an integral 7' lead wire, so no extra extension wire is required. See similar questions...

What should I do if I believe I have a faulty thermocouple that is brand new?

Frequently Asked Questions - Proheat Inc.
First check our thermocouple chart to verify that you have the correct calibration type. Second, make sure you have the thermocouple connected properly (positive and negative legs). Thirdly, verify that your controller is set to the proper thermocouple calibration type. Fourth, verify that any extension wire used is in fact thermocouple extension wire and not electrical extension wire. Fifth, verify that you have not run thermocouple wire with power connection wire in the same conduit. See similar questions...

Why do Micro Motion sensors have an RTD attached?

Micro Motion Coriolis Flow and Density Products > Support
Changes in temperature affect the elasticity of the metal flow tube, making it necessary to use an RTD for compensation to achieve the best possible flow and density accuracy. The RTD on Micro Motion sensors is also used to perform calculations for % concentration, standard volume conversion, and to provide a temperature output See similar questions...
