There are five grocery stores in greater Franklin, approximately a fifteen minute drive from the cabin. The Ingles store located in the Wal-Mart Shopping center is open 24 hours for your convenience. The closest village with any shopping is Ambra (7 to 10min drive), where you will find a bank with cash machine, two cafes, an excellent restaurant, fruit shop, butcher, grocery store and a cinema. Students tell us that the local Safeway stores have the best prices. There is a recently renovated Safeway store on "B" Street in San Rafael, and there is one in Terra Linda. The closest market is United at Grand and 3rd in San Rafael. There is a Whole Foods Store at 340 Third Street, across the street from the Montecito Shopping Center. Most salmon found in grocery stores are imported or farm raised. Salmon stocks have been diminished greatly from historic levels; however, those remaining seem to be fairly stable. Still, a few chinook, chum, coho and sockeye runs are threatened.
