The National Trails System Act (NTSA) was enacted by federal legislation in 1968 as a framework for a national system of connected scenic, historic and recreational trails.

From the very first draft, teens are helping to develop and critique the scenarios and answer choices, including the Campaign own Youth Leadership Team, our DC Teen Advisory Group, our Youth Online Network, teen visitors to the Campaign's website, and many others. In addition to teens, a diverse group of media experts and a variety of health and youth-service organizations help develop and review the quiz.

Pets are allowed in the park, but special regulations apply. Pets are not allowed on any park trails. Pets are only allowed in drive-in campgrounds, along park roads open to motor vehicles, and in picnic areas. Pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet and under physical restraint or caged. They may not be left unattended for any length of time. Kennels are available in several towns surrounding the park.

Volunteers perform a vital role in helping to maintain both The Ridgeway and Thames Path National Trails. They carry out an ongoing programme of maintenance and improvements which include tasks such as vegetation clearance, installing and repairing signs, gates and information boards, fencing, building steps, riverbank repairs and conservation of wild flower habitats. Tasks are carried out on most weekdays, led by a Volunteer Coordinator from the National Trails team.

Natural England are responsible for the designation of National Trails and provide guidance about the standards that should be expected on National Trails. A document called "Quality Standards for National Trails in England" has been developed to outline these. The route change maps on the web site and out on the Trail will give you information about the new section of route and any difference in distance between the original route and the new route. In most cases the difference is minimal.

States vary widely in their interest in and support of national trails. Some have statutes modeled on the National Trails System Act; many have statewide trail plans and state trail coordinators. Most Federal NSTs and NHTs have ongoing cooperative agreements with States for the provision of motor tour route signs, law enforcement services, land protection, and other areas of common interest.

National Coming Out Day (NCOD) celebrates Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender persons. The first NCOD occurred as a march in Washington, D.C. on October 11, 1987. Months later, several individuals decided to celebrate this march by recognizing its anniversary every year. Since then, this date has been widely celebrated and is seen as a symbol of hope and strength for many people in the LGBT community.
