There are several different types of gas logs. Most of our members deal with the most popular types, vented and non vented or heating logs. The differences between these two logs sets is very technical. But to boil it down, Vented type logs can only be used in fireplaces with a working chimney that meet current codes. The damper is locked open upon installation must be kept open when burning. Placement of the logs can be changed to make the fire look different.

With the exception of the K Series*, the answer is no. The airflow technology that we use in our amplifiers is designed such that it is best to stack multiple amplifiers on top of each other, with no space between. The amplifiers draw fresh air into the front of the amplifier and exhaust it either out the sides and into the rack, or out the back depending upon the model. We want the hot air that is in the rack to vent out the sides or back, not the front.

On a vented log you need to keep your damper open full while the fire is in use. On a non-vented log you can close your damper because it has an O.D.S. (Oxygen Depletion Sensor). The O.D.S. regulates how much Oxygen the unit is using from your room & will shut off if it is using too much. Because you close your damper you are retaining the heat & not loosing any existing heat!

Unvented gas appliances are not allowed due to potential carbon monoxide risks. Nationally recognized fire codes do not allow these appliances to be located in a childcare setting. It should be noted that manufacturer's guidelines instruct the owner to keep a window open during the use of these appliances.

We recommend not moving the logs. Placement of the logs is critical to the operation and performance of the fireplace. Misarranged logs can result in operational problems. If you notice the logs have been moved during cleaning, contact a service person or check your installation and operating instructions for proper placement.
