The undergraduate programs in the College of Engineering at the University of Idaho are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). This is vital because ABET-accreditation is universally recognized by employers and academia. So our graduates are recognized as true engineers and command higher salaries.

Several factors may influence a program's decision not to seek accreditation status. First, some may not offer programs that culminate in a Bachelor's or Master's degree, and thus are not eligible to see Council accreditation (a policy effective in 2004). Saying that a course is accredited is not quite accurate but it's easier to use this term. The course is not actually accredited only the qualification is. It means that the training organisation has applied to have the training package or curriculum listed for their organisation. MD has studied allopathic medicine whereas a DO has studied osteopathic medicine. Osteopathic medical school is a four-year training program that is structured much like allopathic training with an additional emphasis on primary care and osteopathic manipulative therapy.
