Synchronous communication is a form of communication whereby people (students and instructors in this case) interact with each other at the same time (sometimes called real time). This can be done via various methods of communication such as chatrooms, video conferencing and audio conferencing. Asynchronous communication is a form of communication that does not happen in real time.

Asynchronous or store and forward consultation involves the exchange of clinical information and static images collected and stored in the telecommunication equipment. The dental practitioner collects all the required clinical information and digital intraoral and extraoral images and radiographs (or scanned, originally nondigital images) and forwards them for consultation and treatment planning via established networks and/or the Internet. E-mail is an example of asynchronous communication.

Synchronous learning is when all the participants are interacting at the same time (in Virtual Classrooms or chatting sessions for instance). Asynchronous learning is when the student accesses the material on his/her own, at any time (online learning materials) or communicates with peers or tutors who are not available online at the same (emails, discussion forums).

For asynchronous device, each data byte is framed by housekeeping bits. These bits provide the synchronization to the receiving facility each time when it receives data byte. Answer: RS422 is an earlier standard than RS485. If a card complies with the RS485 standard then it will comply with the RS422 standard. The most significant difference is that RS422 when using 2 wires to communicate to another device is simplex only, ie it can only transmit or receive in one direction and requires handshake lines to control the flow of data. RS485 is a standard which allows bi-directional communication when using 2 wires.

Synchronous training refers to instruction that is led by a facilitator, over the web, in “real time.” Participants are interacting at the same time, but not from the same place. Synchronous training closely mirrors a classroom experience, but don’t’ fall into the trap of trying to replicate the traditional classroom because synchronous training has its own unique characteristics and interaction strategies.

Graphic Communication deals more with print-based media while Electronic Imaging deals with multimedia (animation, web, and 4-d work). Both programs do, however, share responsibility for web design.
