Jamaica is in the tropics, so rain can be a frequent visitor to the island. You may encounter some days when rain does not occur, but for the most part, expect it and enjoy it! Tropical rainstorms are most often intense, brief (only and hour or two long) and can bring a cooling relief from the humidity. Often referred to as "liquid sunshine" the rains are what keep the island so lush and green.

Most of the precipitation in the winter occurs as snow, whereas about the same amount of rain and snow fall in the summer. Palmer Station receives an average of 29.3 inches (742 mm) of precipitation (rain and melted snow) a year. Domack, E., A. Leventer, A.

Rain is more likely to develop in the parts of clouds that are thicker. So as the clouds pass over you, there will be changes in the amount of rain produced by the different parts of the cloud. In the summer, the rain is often associated with cumulus clouds.

For clouds to form, and rain to start, the air does have to reach 100% relative humidity, but only where the clouds are forming or where the rain is coming from. This normally happens when the air rises and cools. Here's a bit of trivia for you, often rain will be falling from clouds where the humidity is 100% into air with a lower humidity.

Very nicely. The course drains well, especially the USGA spec greens on the back 9 of Lakeside (which also features continuous cart paths, so we can easily let carts out on that nine). There are times when it is too wet (or icy) for riding carts, but it is unusual. After Hurricane Ivan (about 5 inches of rain; 9/17/04) on a Friday, we were quite busy on Saturday, with carts restricted to the paths on the back 9 of Lakeside. Golfers were quite pleased with the conditions.
