Jury duty will last anywhere from 1-4 days unless you are selected to sit on an actual trial. If you are not struck from the jury and are chosen to hear the case, the judge will inform you of the approximate time it will take to try the case.

According to the Code of Civil Procedure (CCP) 191 it states “The Legislature recognizes that trial by jury is a cherished constitutional right, and that jury service is an obligation of citizenship”. Petit jurors are summoned for a 90-day on-call period. This does not mean that they serve on juries for 90 days, but rather than during that 90-day on-call period they are eligible to be summoned for service. Jurors are generally not asked to actually report more than twice during that time. If selected, they are expected to remain for the duration of the trial. Check your juror summons for a reporting date and time. If you receive this summons in the mail without a specific reporting date, you will receive a separate notice in the mail approximately 10 days before you are due to report.
