There are two types of hemophilia: hemophilia A (sometimes called classical hemophilia) and hemophilia B (sometimes called Christmas disease). Both are caused by a low level or absence of one of the proteins in the blood (called factors) that control bleeding. Hemophilia A is caused by a deficiency of factor VIII, and hemophilia B is caused by a deficiency of factor IX.

The earlier units only had 1/4" inputs and outputs. Inputs are fully balanced, outputs are single-ended (some say "quasi-balanced") auto balancee/unbalanced. Ability to drive longer cables is less and high frequency rolloff can be a concern due to cable capacitance. Around 1994 we updated the design and changed to the "B" designation. These units have fully balanced inputs and outputs, both XLR and 1/4" TRS connections being utilized. Functionally the units are virtually identical.

Hepatitis A (HAV) is caused by a virus found in feces (people's stool). You can get it by coming in contact with infected feces. The most common way is by swallowing food or liquids that get contaminated by hands that are not washed thoroughly after using the toilet. You can also get Hepatitis A through sexual acts like 'rimming' (licking someone's anus) or via oral sex on a male's penis after he has had anal sex.

Hemophilia is an inherited bleeding disorder. Blood contains many proteins, called clotting factors, which work to stop bleeding. People with hemophilia have a low level or absence of one of these clotting factors in their blood. The lack of clotting factor causes people with hemophilia to bleed for longer periods of time than people whose blood factor levels are normal. People with hemophilia do not bleed faster than other people, and will not bleed to death from a minor cut or injury.

The severity of hemophilia is determined by the level of clotting activity of factor VIII or factor IX in the blood. There are three levels of severity: mild, moderate, and severe. The following table shows the range of factor VIII and factor IX activity: People with severe hemophilia usually bleed frequently into their muscles or joints. They may bleed one to two times per week. Bleeding is often spontaneous, which means the bleeding just happens with no obvious cause.

Power is the rate of doing work. It is an instantaneous quantity, measured in watts. A watt is 1 joule per second. Energy is power over a period of time. It is measured in watt-seconds, but that unit is too small for everyday use, so the unit kilowatt-hours is more commonly used. Note this is a controversial subject - not because there is any disagreement, but because some people are either lazy, uninformed or misinformed and misuse the terms.

B Meets are Wednesday evening meets, and swimmers may sign up for any event they choose, as long as they are "legal" in the required stroke(s). A person born with hemophilia will have it for life. The level of factor VIII or IX in his blood usually stays the same throughout his life. The most severe forms of hemophilia affect almost only males. Females can be seriously affected only if the father has hemophilia and the mother is a carrier. This is extremely rare. However, many women who are carriers have symptoms of mild hemophilia.
