Are zinc die-castings as good as extruded aluminum for heat sinks?

Eastern Alloys, Inc.
Die cast zinc alloys do not have as good thermal conductivity as extruded aluminum. However, die-casting brings several advantages that can outweigh this fact. e.g. The fins are integral with the chassis resulting in a more efficient heat path, with no joints or interfaces.

Can I plate directly onto aluminum or zinc?

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Aluminium and zinc both readily corrode. For this reason, they require a very thick layer of protective plate before the final decorative layer. This plate is usually copper followed by nickel plated in a tank. To save the considerable costs involved in setting up a tank-plating operation, our operators usually subcontract out this work to their local plating shop. We do however offer a kit for plating onto aluminium. We recommend that only small aluminum objects eg.

Can aluminum parts be processed?

Top-Gun Enterprises, Inc.
Yes. Even though we can not provide the durability and adhesion that we can provide on carbon steel parts, we can apply the polymer coating to the parts after they have been blasted, cleaned and alodined. The polymer coating is applied and backed on, providing a uniform color for all of the parts, both steel and aluminum.

What are the technical differences between zinc, aluminum and magnesium anodes?

If your boat can galvanically couple to other boats around it (i.e., connected to AC shorepower without a galvanic isolator). For vessels with AC shorepower connections and no galvanic isolation, use Chart A (pdf). For vessels with no AC shorepower connections, or AC shorepower connections with galvanic isolation, use Chart B (pdf). Close

What if I need parts? Where can I find repair tools?

faq
Search on the internet for camera parts or hand tools and many sources will be returned. I don't currently endorse any company for service personally and have found the manufacturers no more or less accurate than a good shop who has the proper/current production test instruments and qualified technicians.

Do I need to bring tools and some parts ?

Mongolia Travel Packages - Mongolia Tours - Mongolia Travel ...
We have the tools that we are likely to need for maintenance and repair of our own (hired) bikes. We also take some spare parts. If you bring your own bike, it is up to you to decide what tools and parts you might need. You must remember that there are no bike shops in the remote places in which we travel, and even in Ulaanbaatar parts are unavailable.

What is the Poisson's ratio of zinc alloys?

Eastern Alloys, Inc.
Poisson's Ratio (pronounced "pwason") is used as one of the data inputs for Finite Element Stress Analysis. The values for zinc alloys are:

Are zinc alloys suitable for gears?

Eastern Alloys, Inc.
Zinc die-castings are extensively used for gears varying in size from the tiny pinions used in instruments and switches, to sprockets for chain drives and gear racks for washing machines. In most cases, the teeth are cast to size; however, for special applications they may be machined by hobbing, broaching, etc.

What's the best tool/way to fabricate small extruded aluminum parts?

FAQ
Your best bet here is a small bandsaw, head down to Harbor Freight or Princess Auto and pick up a cheap bandsaw. It is true you get what you pay for but in this case it is more then sufficient to build your plane. Also you can use a regular chop saw with a carbide bit wood blade to cut your aluminum.

My sunroof is no longer made, can I still get parts?

Frequently Asked Sunroof Questions - SUNROOFS.ORG
Often, parts are still available; check with your local sunroof professional. If the manufacturer is no longer in business, there may still be parts in the pipeline through wholesale distributors or other shops. Sunroof manufacturers and suppliers may be able to help locate out of production parts. See your local sunroof professional for assistance.

Do you use any plastic parts in your air tools?

Pneumatic Air Tool Manufacturing | Air Hammer | Pneumatic Ri...
No. All our tools are made from steel and aluminum parts and are heat treated for a longer life! Our tools are designed for industrial applications, where they can be used for long periods of time.

Where can I get parts?

The SNOW BLOWER Shop, FAQ
Toro has acquired the Gilson legacy through the purchase of Lawnboy which in turn had purchased Gilson. Your local LawnBoy dealer is your contact point for original equipment parts. Be sure to bring your machines model number with you, see: How do I identify my Gilson snowblower? Some parts remained in use for over 15 years so there are a lot of machines carrying some of these parts. As the legacy continues to mature more and more obscure items will go out of stock.

What are the die shrinkage factors for zinc alloys?

Eastern Alloys, Inc.
Shrinkage occurs when metal changes from liquid to solid as well as when it cools in the die. Quoted values for die cast zinc alloys are as follows: However, these values may be affected by constraint caused by the die so that some castings or parts of the same casting may shrink differently. Larger parts are often more likely to be constrained than small parts so the designer may use a slightly lower value for large dimensions.

Is there a problem with galvanic corrosion of zinc alloys?

Eastern Alloys, Inc.
Galvanic corrosion is seldom a factor with ZAMAK and ZA alloys because of the material's inherently good corrosion resistance. If a small die cast zinc part is electrically connected to a large brass or steel part and immersed in a corrosive electrolyte the rate of corrosion may be increased to the point where there is a problem. This can usually be overcome by either insulating the parts or giving a surface coating to the zinc alloy.

I get a lot of dross when melting zinc alloy. What is the cause?

Eastern Alloys, Inc.
The most common cause of excessive dross formation is that the metal temperature is too high which increases the rate of oxidation. It also increases the rate which aluminum in the alloy combines with the iron of the pot, gooseneck etc. to produce iron-aluminide intermetallic. The result is excessive dross and excessive wear of the furnace and gooseneck. In extreme cases, this can cause the alloy to go out of specification.

Can you explain your process of plating Zinc Die Casting?

New Brunswick Plating, Inc.
With the exception of zinc plated parts, all zinc die-castings are processed as follows: preclean, mill, copper strike, and copper plate. Preclean: A two step process to remove most synthetic, petroleum, vegetable, and animal based fluids used in die-casting and machining operations. Mill: A controlled removal of the outer layer of die-cast. This process can remove flash, surface die-cast blisters, and modify dimensions if necessary.
