What is the difference between line voltage and low voltage?

M&M Lighting - Frequently Asked Questions
Line voltage in the United States is 120 volts. It is the voltage that is supplied to your home or office. Low voltage is less than the supplied voltage. Some lamps, like GE's ConstantColor? Precise? MR16 lamps, run on low voltage. Getting low voltage to lamps requires that the supplied electricity (at 120 V) passes through a transformer to reduce it prior to operating the lamp.

What is the difference between using a low voltage and line voltage?

TLI: SoLux News Page
In the US, most of your standard wall electrical outlets are rated at 120 or 130 volts. In order to use SoLux products the power has to go through a transformer to reduce it to 12 volts. Each track fixture and all our other fixtures such as task lamps have a transformer within it to allow it to use the SoLux bulb. See similar questions...

What is the difference between a low voltage and a line voltage thermostat?

STANDARD BASEBOARD HEATER
Low voltage thermostats should be used when the heater load is greater than 3,800 watts such as commercial heater (ex. Cadet CEH unit heater), or central forced air systems. Line voltage thermostats should be used for zonal heat systems such as electric fan heaters, baseboard heaters and radiant heaters. Cadet has a variety of options to meet your specific needs. How do I know if the application is line (120 or 240 V) voltage or low (24 V) voltage?

Aube Technologies
To determine if the wiring in the wall is line or low voltage, check the wires that were connected to your old thermostat. Thicker gauge wires (around 12 AWG) usually mean line voltage. If your old thermostat was installed in an electrical box, chances are it was a line voltage application. Never install line voltage wires on an Aube low voltage thermostat designed to control a oil, gas, or electric furnace and/or central air conditioning. See similar questions...

How can I tell if a fixture is low or line voltage?

Track Lighting - Frequently Asked Questions
The low voltage fixture has a slim oblong transformer box, whereas the line voltage fixture does not. See similar questions...

What do I do if my voltage is low ?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
For low voltage problem, you can lodge your complaint in writing or over telephone with details in the local fuse call centre (FCC). The supplier shall intimate a complaint number to you after registering the complaint. FCC has to respond to your complaint within 4 hours. If it is not done, complaint can be lodged with the SDO in writing in prescribed format. See similar questions...

Why is voltage low on a new battery?

Icelltech Hearing Aid Batteries - Australian Distributor
Accordingly, voltage measured right after removal of the tab is normally lower than specified voltage of 1.4Volt. This has nothing to do with battery capacity and you do not have to worry at all. It will be fully activated as you use the battery. We would like to suggest that you insert the battery into your hearing aid at least 1 minute after removal of the tab to allow for proper activation time. See similar questions...

Is low-voltage safe?

Tahoe Radiant
Low-voltage electricity is the safest type of electricity. If you wanted, you could hook up the system, turn it on, and walk directly on top of the ZMesh and not receive a shock, even if you were soaking wet. All you would feel is nice soothing warmth produced by the radiant heat system. See similar questions...

Answers to installation questions
Generally more costly than mains voltage driven but Somfy have broken the mould on that with their advanced circuitry. See similar questions...

What is the Low Voltage Directive?

Product Safety Engineering FAQ fcc part 15,part 68,class a,c...
The Low Voltage Directive (73/23/EEC) directs developers to implement safety standards which apply to the products and environment they operate in. It applies to all electrical equipment, designed to operate (normally) in the voltage range 50-1000Vac or 75-1500Vdc. A CE marking according to the Low Voltage Directive is a manufacturer's self declaration of conformity. See similar questions...

Can I trust these on-line sites with incredibly low prices?

Digital Photography FAQ
Check their ratings at pricegrabber. You'll find that the least expensive merchants often do one or more of the following tricks: Refuse to actually sell you the camera at the advertised price unless you buy many overpriced accessories. Check out this posting from a guy who took pictures of some of the Brooklyn store fronts associated with the some of the low cost merchants. It does not inspire confidence. See similar questions...

How do I test for line voltage?

Tanning Beds Now - Frequently Asked Questions
You may test it yourself with a volt meter, have an electrician test it or call your local power company. See similar questions...

Why is there a difference between test voltage and working voltage?

Jennings Technology - Technotes - Vacuum Relays, Vacuum Capa...
Testing voltage is the maximum 60 Hz voltage that can be applied to the vacuum capacitor without breakdown occurring. Capacitors are tested at this voltage to determine the general condition of the capacitor. Working voltage is the maximum peak voltage that can be applied continually. A complete response to this question can be found in the Jennings TechNote C-2: "The Effects of Voltage on Vacuum Capacitors" See similar questions...

What is the difference between and voltage converter and a voltage regulator?

DC Converter,DC to DC Converter,AC DC Converters,Current to ...
A voltage regulator functions as a voltage converter as well as a voltage stabilizer. A voltage stabilizer will stabilize the electricity to a fixed current. VC model transformers come with a European-to-American plug adapter. You can find additional types of plug adapters on our site. See similar questions...

Why use low voltage fittings instead of our mains voltage supply?

Hunza FAQ for Outdoor Landscape Low Voltage Garden Lighting ...
Low voltage has a lower heat output is relatively safe as opposed to mains. In terms of ecomomy Hunza lights have longer lamp life - an average of 5000 hours, over double the mains voltage lamp life and are cheaper to run than mains fittings. See similar questions...

What are the reasons that cause battery with no voltage or low voltage?

Frequently asked questions
Cells expansion and short circuit caused by direct anode contact and continuous high efficiency electric current overcharging. A new battery usually maintains a discharged condition with very low capacity. It is highly recommended to fully charge new battery packs before using. You can refer to the users' guide of your electronic device for charging instructions. A new battery pack needs to be circled (fully discharged and recharged) three to five times to reach its optimum performance. See similar questions...
