Is Spain a hiking friendly place?

Travelling on foot
Depends on the region. People is friendly, more so in rural environments (not different from anywhere in the world, actually) but that's another subject. As far as infraestructures for hikers (trails, lodging...) go, there are areas with strong hiking tradition and others without. Recreational hiking is more popular in the mountainous areas and near the big cities. In general, hiking means day-hiking; multi-day backpacking is not as popular.

How big is this place? How far will we be hiking?

FAQ
Another thing that should be pointed out - distances are extremely deceiving in the complex. What looks like a short hike is a very long climb. Just before the film ends (at the piles of rocks) look up towards the top of that gradual slope. That is Taseq West - a prime hunting spot, and it is about 1.8km away from where the camera was, and about 300 - 400m higher. 1 1/2 hours to get up there from where we are - more if you're carrying more than you should be.

Baxil [bakh-HEEL'], n. - BaxWalk PCT: Frequently Asked Q...
Not as such. However, over 150 thru-hikers will be attending the ADZ Kickoff Party, and many of them will (like me) be hiking northward once it wraps up; thus, I'll be in the middle of a pretty good-sized group as I get started, and I suspect I'll end up falling into pace with another hiker or hikers. So for the desert -- the part of the trip that I'm not used to -- I should have plenty of company, and the same goes for the High Sierra.

Should I wear running shoes or hiking boots?

Hardrock Hundred FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Despite the rough terrain and many miles of cross country travel, you will probably be much better off in running shoes, although one of the modern lug soled running/hiking shoe hybrids might not be an unreasonable choice. I usually wear my running shoes when I go backpacking anyway. However, you'll want to pack several pairs of whatever you wear, and bring lots of extra socks. Even in '94, a very dry year, this was a foot-soaking course.
